I don't know how "serious" these songs may seem to some, but they are serious to me.

I listened to this song quite a bit when I was breaking off my emotionally abusive relationship and the life I knew for 12 years.

Spoiler

Don't come for me for that choice.

The song I walked down the aisle to because it just captures everything about my relationship with my husband.

And "Come to Mama" because I love the message behind it. We can all get along and respect one another.

I was sorta waiting for someone to post BTW but it seems like BTW was so generalized by this fanbase that none of y'all think it was about a serious issue. BTW practically was the first song ever to outright tell people that being LGBT is ok. Not to mention the underlying meaning that no matter who you are, what color you are, how you look, that you are beautiful in your own way. This song sparked a huge movement in pop music that makes everyone question the status quo.

I'm not discrediting any work that was done by artists that came before Gaga. But this song literally made LGBT front and center that got so huge that people were banning it because it challenged the status quo in a none sexual manner. Most music were usually banned for being too sexual or violent. But BTW was none of those. It challenged how people think, sparking a chain of reaction that included other pop singers to sing about self identity and empowerment making it a trend for a period of time.

So kinda shocked that people here didn't even think that this song was not "serious" enough. Then again, it also shows the progress we have made since this song debuted.
