Why so personal though? :air:

I don't think I've tried to present my opinion as more valid in general, just that I think we should ground our opinions in actual fact and not in fantasies. That's why I'm bringing up Gaga's statements about the song, etc. To me it's just unrealistic that she would've secretly invited a rapist to work on a song that was secretly about rape and not problematize his actions in public. Why would she stress that R. Kelly was a victim of trashy media then? Why would she secretly use her friend, Terry, to be part of such a plan? It just doesn't add up and that's what I wanted to talk about here.

I do have hobbies though lol. I'm finishing a master's degree this year, I've gotten nothing but 90% on each test, paper and presentation so far and I'm actually losing weight because I've started to work out since a few weeks :chica: So I'm not worried, sis. Maybe you need to be worried that you have to spend your time passive aggressively mentioning how horrible people are without even have the balls to quote or @ them. Maybe you need to find a better way to spend your time

you're so boring and blind to the subjects you dive deep in, it's hard to believe you're not trying hard not to be seen as a delusional fan. newsflash: Gaga's songs have multiple meanings and she was basically repeating the "my ARTPOP could mean anything" line everywhere. she chose R. Kelly and uncle Terry because she knew of the accusations and what she meant with her apology is that it's a twisted form of exorcism, that's become a little too twisted and uncomfortable. she's trying to gross herself out of her pain in half of the songs on that album. working on an empowering song about risk, hustle and purpose with accused sexual predators is brilliant performance art and is honestly way more of a badass rockstar look than the bubblegum coke-***** vibes she was going for during the TFM release and MB 1.0 you seem to be so nostalgic about that you feel the need to dismiss all of her artistry since... honey, Gaga is cool, so chill. one day no one will care how pretentious or contradictory she looked in today's pathetic cultural landscape. no one's gonna laugh at you for buying into her pretense here. stop being an annoying cynic because you're not even getting that one right considering you've made a habit of praising people like Ariana Grande and Beyoncé to further cement your status as a bias-free pop fan lmao now doesn't that feel like a tiny ****

Also a note to some people attacking members of opposing opinions - insults go nowhere. It doesn't validate your points more if you curse someone or not.

there's no points to be made about this topic. the song has multiple meanings like 99% of Gaga's discography and Christina is not talking bs. that member just seems to have issues with being a Gaga fan that recognizes the kaleidoscopic multicellular nature of her art. that's why I responded.

Lady Gaga sings first verse of "Traveller"

For every time this song gets played, they donate 10 cents for a good cause. :applause:

Once more: if she chose them for that reason you have to explain/acknowledge the fact that she tricked people she praised in public and who probably thought of her as a friend :awkney: Does that sound like Gaga to you? Yeah, I didn't think so. It's far more realistic to just believe her when she says she chose R. Kelly because he was a victim of media trashtalking, which was the red thread throughout that whole single era (ànd the song lyrics).

Add Body Revolution to that and you basically have a complete, artistically solid package. Now I'm fine with different interpretations, but I'm just not buying how so many fans just assume it's obvious that song had an undercurrent of rape and don't feel the need to explain it or connect it to Gaga's own statements. Just replying to that with "well, but she did say that her ARTPOP could mean anything" is just opening up a free for all interpretation game that is endless and pointless :madge:

I think I've put forward some good arguments and since literally no one is able to respond to them, favoring personal attacks over simple replies to the content, I'm assuming they were good ones :laughga:

Did you not see my post about ARTPOP on the last page?

I think I've spent more time trying to dissect that album than most fans here, and it was not appreciated by the majority. I've been getting nothing but "calm down girl, ARTPOP is just a pop album, it's not that deep" replies since 2013 :awkney:

I've always been interested in analyzing her work and looking for hidden clues and layers, far more than the average fan here, so don't come at me with that bs, get to know me first before you slag me off.

Then why are you saying my arguments about what Gaga said don't matter? You literally said I took things at face value when I was referring to what Gaga said herself :rip: And then there was that "her art speaks more clearly than she herself" statement which, to me, is just an excuse to go free for all in interpreting her songs.

I agree so much with you. That song was NEVER about abuse. Just listen to the original solo version "my bones hurt, from all the shows, but I don't feel the pain because I'm a pro (...) and then I am ok, because  my body belongs to you when I am on stage" Or even the first verses "and then you PRINT some **** that makes me wanna scream, so do what you want with my body". Where the **** is all that "the song is about abuse" coming from? Like, Swine is about abuse, it is obvious and gaga said it herself... but this? She is just only talking about how problematic it (the title basically) sounds with Kelly attached to the song. This song is about the media, she wrote it after all the BTWBall press they did on her body, she made a performance full of newspapers on the screens while her child self was playing piano behind her... it is just such a reach.

Omg I thought you wrote AyaKara GTFO and I was like DIDY WHAT WE'VE BEEN PALS FOR SO LONG :toofloppy:

Actually, it was DJWS who wanted R. Kelly -- it was in his interviews, tweets, all of his Chicago represent stuff (hence Twista's feature, as well). When he was announced, many of us were surprised. His verse was so out of place, and seeing that Gaga strongly promoted the original verse on LMs.com, Twitter, etc., in the year before release, it doesn't sound like the DWUW we have is the one Gaga envisioned. Then came December, where she backed out of the video and made that long statement on LMs.com about how unhappy she was with the single era (Venus being her ideal), and that ARTPOP was essentially over.

I can't help but think this was all a last minute change in which Gaga was 'strongly encouraged' to put him on, and had to make it work with her interviews, strangely sexual performances, and other weird promo at that time.

Back to what matters, is there anything we could do to get Gaga/her team to consider replacing DWUW on the album with solo/Xtina version? :ohno: Maybe the latter since it’s already been released?

okay. fair enough. my bad. still. do you expect her to promote it as an anti-rape song with an accused sex offender? of course she won't mention it. everyone with a creative mind will see it as performance art that speaks about lots more than what the lyrics are there to tell.

Thank you, Legendtina! She would have done the exact same thing. It’s so good to see female artist supporting each other.
