Her ENTIRE goal throughout the show has been to get the Iron Throne. Something we now know she isn’t even the one entitled one to claim it. You cannot tell me you didn’t see this coming. I LOVE her character, and love how she showcased empathy and everything else. But that has always been her flaw. Meanwhile Jon has NO LUST for power. Varys is correct in his reasoning and we all know it. Exactly. Thank you!!!

Absolutely. But people are acting like she made a 180 out of nowhere. NO. This has been long coming. The closer she gets to power, the worse her lust will become. It has increasingly grown throughout the show. Now, is the writing a bit off this season? I’d say yes. You can see the shift from the past seasons. Is it forgivable? Imo yes. I love it so far. I know many people will be livid at the ending (I haven’t read spoilers), but this is GOT. It wasn’t meant to make you happy

There are tropes and to some degree a formula to how this is going to pan out.

Varys is correct in his reasoning and we all know it. I’ve grown to like Dany as the show went on (even though my loyalty will always be to the Starks) and because of that I had never thought of her this way, but recently I finally started reading the books, just finished the second one in the series, and this makes total sense to me now. From the beginning her obsession with being the one in the iron throne - regardless of the fact that her father wasn’t fit to rule and that she’s talking about a land she doesn’t even know - is very clear. It made me think about that when I watch the show and now I think you’re right. I fear that she may go down the same road in the books as well. I’ll keep looking for Wonderland

It will be her demise I’m sure. I agree, she should have done that. But her character isn’t completely “mad,” which is why I love her.

It wasn’t meant to make you happy  the writing has been off since they left the safety of the books, D&D are showing themselves as pretty standard writers compared to what GRRM himself does.  They just don't seem to see or care about the nuances of character as much and seem to fall more into standard TV writing tropes.  That said, it's still some of the best television around. Dany's arc though is the most straightforward one of all the mains.  She has shown glimpses of the tyrant and entitlement throughout the entire series so it's not surprising in the least the path she is likely to follow, unless there is some unexpected redemption coming in the next two episodes.
