Ocasio-Cortez floats 70 percent tax on the super wealthy to fund Green New

The wealthiest 1% in this country used to be taxed 95% and we pretend it never happened. How do you think the U.S. was funded in the beginning? Also, 30% of 1,000,000 is still $30,000! The richest Americans make over 1,000,000 a day and ya'll act like they'll be hurting if they only make $30,000/day, which most Americans work their asses off just to make that in a year. Leave leftists alone. Just because a 70% tax on YOU would hurt YOU does not mean it hurts the rich at all.

You can't compare European systems to the us. Similarities are superficial. Small tightly controlled economies vs. a vastly independent and loosely regulated one.

But what effect would it have on the economy if the rich pay more taxes? They still will be rich and it not like they spend all their money  to contribute to the economy

they save it or hide it on foreign back accounts

But it is about porgressive income taxes where you tax the income in braskets not in the entire amount one percentage but is braskets and it is about income taxes not taxes on cooperations and such a progressive income tax already exsist in mant European countries so why wouldn't it work in the usa?

They don't go that high in Europe the highest rates are not much over 50%. France tried 75% tax on Income over $1 Million once before and it didn't go so well

USA in many States is not that far below EU income taxes when u count state taxes like in California that add significant state taxes as well while in Europe it's more central government

It's about the competative global environment. Tax the rich movement seem to focus on what the rich get and that's all.

I would actually like to have low taxes for the low and middle income Groups so that they have more purchase power and higher taxes for the rich so that they contribute more to society and everything is more balanced :ohwell:

Thats all

so let us agree to disagree

im tired :ladyhaha:

A reasonable position.  I believe a tiered system is already in place.

It's that many seem to want to go after the greater percentage of the top tier than what is already there...

If the US spends more on health care already, then why "Increase" taxes to support more spending?   The focus should be on the efficiency and proper use of current funding to reach a greater audience of those in need.

Additional taxation needs to be justified by more than "Rich people can survive on less"

I think u meant $300,000

And as I said, the 95% tax existed in a different era. Were not "pretending it didn't happen".

But in the era of globalization, very high taxes are much more problematic

Competitiveness was a huge topic here in Canada since Trumps tax cuts

For 2019 our small business taxes will be reduced to 9% and we will be able to write-off expenses more front loaded on new projects just like in the US

I'm surprised the Liberals did this considering they been reluctant before to keep most of the tax cuts the previous conservative government kept

They talked about lowering Corporate taxes further as well from the current 15% to possibly 13% but decided not to in order to keep the deficit below 1% of GDP

US liberal leaders don't fully understand their own economy

Looks like early legislation in then new Congress is more about attacking conservative positions and securing power than actually running the country.

I think the Liberals here have done a phenomenal job. They created a deficit but it's been contained at or below 1% of GDP and most of the increase in spending has been on stuff like training and innovation programs as well as infrastructure so they are investments. And they haven't reversed most of the tax cuts from the Conservative Government before them

I do not like how they've handled the energy crisis tho. They have the power to force the pipeline they bought to go ahead with construction and they haven't forced it for political reasons and we are still loosing a fortune every day and it forced Alberta to legislate mandatory production cuts :/

Also Trudeaus Carbon taxes on Provinces that didn't make their own are "revenue neutral" by refunding the public but they give none back to businesses only consumers so this hurts the oil industry that's already down

i think Canada is the only Country with so much oil that has so much internal disputes over whether or not to produce it or expand it

but excluding Oil I think they've done good on the economy. I get horrified looking at US politics tbh

if we dared to run deficits of 5% of GDP like the US we'd be able to have like the best economy ever

Liberal/Conservative neutral, policy wise and recent actions have me concerned about our quality of leadership.  Trumps tax cuts has impacted the economy but Trade Tarrifs and general antagonism towards the left has me sceptical of him.  I've stated my opinion of Pelosi numerous times.

Schumer isn't such a bad guy tho, let's see how he handles House control.
