Rearranging Shallow

Hey guys! I'm currently writing an arrangement of Shallow that kind of mixes up Ally's and Jackson's singing. I'm gonna structure it as follows in the spoiler, let me know what you guys think! The structure of the song has always felt a little bit awkward to me personally so I'm writing it how I would wanna hear it!

Spoiler

Jackson:

Tell me something girl

Are you happy in this modern world

Or do you need more

Is there something else you're searching for

I'm falling, In all the good times

I find myself longing

For a change

And in the bad times, I fear myself

[CHORUS]: I'm off the deep end

Watch as I dive in

I'll never meet the ground

Crash through the surface

Where they can't hurt us

We're far from the shallow now

Ally:

Tell me something boy

Aren't you tired tryna fill that void

Or do you need more

Ain't it hard keepin' it so hardcore

I'm falling, in all the good times

I find myself longing

For a change

And in the bad times, I fear myself

[CHORUS]

Both:

[BRIDGE]: In the shallow

Sha-ha-low

In the sha-ha-sha-ha-shallow

In the shallow, sha-ha-ha-low,

We're far from the shallow now

Ally:

(Final chorus building improvisation)

Both:

[CHORUS, Jackson harmonizing]

Let me know what you guys think!

The best way to rearrange Shallow is to follow the pattern of an ordinary duet song:

1st verse (Bradley)

1st chorus (Bradley)

2nd verse (Gaga)

2nd chorus (Gaga)

[Sha-shallow part (Bradley & Gaga)]

Bridge (Gaga)

3rd Chorus (Bradley & Gaga)

[Sha-shallow part (Bradley & Gaga)]

Yeah, that's almost exactly what I did (I have both singing the bridge). I understand why they wrote it the way they did, but it feels unbalanced imo.

I feel so happy that they decided to break the pattern of what pop music is right now. I'm tired of the same verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus. We're having this pattern since I can't even remember when. I'm happy they created something different + I love the song how it is !

It has the structure of a pop song minus one chorus, which is missing because of the "improvisation" scene in the movie.

mhhh but both chorus are different than usual pop (first chorus being almost acoustic and second having dramatic drums). + the verses are acoustic as well. The beat is very uncommon, as the song progression, the chords, the song structure, the guitar melody, etc.

I think if you have them swap their "I'm falling" bits so it's like an admission.

Bradley: tell me something girl etc

Gaga: I'm falling etc

Bradley (one line) "I'm falling.."

Then Gaga "tell me something boy"

Bradley "I'm falling etc"

*chorus*

Wailing

Chorus

Shahahalow

End.

if there is a way to filter out their vocals separately it'll be great too. love your idea.

And when you say my name, like white horses on the waves, I think it feels the same, as an ocean in my veins.

I agree. I was a bit off about it when I first heard the song but now I’m happy they didn’t make the song the same pattern.

The song felt so short and unfinished though.

I think maybe if they added a guitar solo/instrumental part in between the chorus and bridge it would’ve been longer and not disrupt the story line.

That's because it's not a pop song. It's an acoustic rock song, so the sound builds up from slow to full-force throughout the song. But the structure is an average song with a missing chorus (I'm not shading the song or anything, it's just the way it is :) )

but I'm just wandering who you are to say that there is a missing chorus? why does it have to have 3 chorus? where is it written? It is music ! if someone gets a little bit away from the usual pattern you consider that something is missing? That's not a very open-minded statement

Again, I'm not shading the song. I love it, but I'm just saying that it has a typical pop song structure minus a chorus (the usual pattern is three choruses) and it's fine as it is. The original post was about rearranging it, I was just discussing. I didn't personally offend you, offend Gaga, Bradley Cooper, Warner Brothers, the music industry, your family or anything. Some of you really see shade and negativity everywhere.

And I didn't say a missing chorus is a bad thing.

I know this thread was made just for fun, but I've seen some fans with such a need to change the song and I don't understand why? It's beautiful as it is. Bradley is not a good vocalist, why let him sing such a big explosive chorus? he'd fail horribly.

Letting Gaga command and overpower 2/3 of the song makes perfect sense to me.

I think they should harmonise on that part
