Dive Bar Performances (love/hate relationship)

So I watched one of the Dive Bar videos on YouTube (I believe from LA), and I absolutely love the concept. I love the idea of Gaga performing in smaller venues like this because I think it was absolutely amazing. Her with just her band (and Mark) on stage was awesome.

However, I had a few moments that I questioned. I think it would have been better without the dancers. It would have made it more intimate and less of a big performance. Plus the dancers super fake smile at the beginning is just a bit much.

I also cringed a little bit when she crowd surfed. I know that this happened at earlier tours as well.  But especially with Gaga talking about her PTSD and how people touching her can trigger things, I wonder why she chose to do this. (Having PTSD myself, I know how triggers can be so random, so maybe she was in an okay place at the time to do this. I'm sure she didn't do it unwillingly.) I was also afraid that someone would just grab at her inappropriately.  I saw her security right there, but it still crossed my mind with how crazy people can be.

What's your opinion on the Dive Bar Tour? (If anyone actually went to one of these, please share your experience!)

I loved them! It was great how she went back to her roots and performed songs from Joanne. And most importantly, may be the only performance of Sinner's Prayer we will ever get :toofunny:. But, now noticing this, I agree with the dancers. The smiles in Come to Mama were a little off to me, but I still loved it. But, I wished she performed more songs off Joanne, like the songs she didn't do. For example, Dancin' In Circles and Hey Girl and not perform A-YO and Million Reasons at every stop. Just my opinion.

I think the idea was more “These are my country Nashville songs”, “These are my more rock/pop NYC songs”, and “These are my more ____ LA songs”.

But, Dancin' In Circles can fit in like every category of those, since its one of the more poppier/country songs on Joanne.

Are there different songs at each performance? If so, how many were there...I need to watch them all.

Bonkers

Who walks into a venue, is handed a mic and walks straight to the stage with it?  That alone was so awesome I am forever in love with the LA Dive Bar performance.

I loved this tour, the only thing I didn’t like was that tickets weren’t available to regular fans. I hope she does something like this again in the future and I have the opportunity to go, seeing her in a smaller setting like that has always been a dream of mine!

Each stop on the Dive Bar tour really represented different parts of the album. Every time Gaga releases her albums she always finds a different way to release it into the world. Nashville is obviously a country town, and she really played those country influenced hits off Joanne.

Next we have New York...the place she played at the begining of her career when she was still Stefani. The songs selected for the set list really the most Stefani influenced songs from Joanne.. Diamond Heart, Grigio Girls & Just Another Day to be specific.

The LA stop was meant to be a very extravagant performance, hence the dancers and Gaga doing choreo for the first time in ages that night. Performing the more "GAGA" songs from Joanne (John Wayne, Come To Mama)...

You mention about if there were no dancers it would be more of an intimate setting instead of a big performance, however at the previous 2 stops in Nashville and New York, that's exactly what she did. There were no dancers, it was super intimate.. so for the final stop, in LA of all places (one of the most extravagant over the top places, very show bizz) - the performance was spot on start to finish.

The part about her stage diving - she mentions it in Five Foot Two in the doctors office. She talks about that even though she struggles with PTSD, and chronic body pain, that when she hears the adrenaline of her music and see's the fans adrenaline, she can "****ing go!".. so I believe in that moment she was honestly just feeling it and decided to ****ing stage dive, probably wasn't planned at all, but it was one of her best imo; it was strikingly similar to the Perfect Illusion music video it's self, it was fantastic how she really brought that energy to life.

The melody that you choose can rescue you ♥

To be fair, she was rehearsing for the JWT at this time and it was weird to have a show like 7 months later

As everybody mentioned, each of the Dive Bar Tour dates had something different to it. Nashville had the most Americana/country/"trying on a new hat" persona, New York City had more of her roots and performance origins, and LA was the most camp (hence the dancers).

I liked the tour when it happened, but I love it much more now. In retrospect, it was a very intimate time in her career. Her playing at the Bitter End again, especially when she performed out on the roof for the public- now that was special.

3 points in and ready for more
