I completely understand your negative views on religion, and it's sad that you view you it (as with most of the world today) that way. But, what really eradicated much of the world's culture is the drive for supremacy. Mostly White people thinking that they're better than the rest of the world. How Hitler almost eradicated the Jews, how Spain ran a bloody conquest around the world to gain more gold and power. How the U.S. terrorized parts of Asia for more foothold and business in the area. How the Japanese (who aren't white) morbidly ravaged large portions of Asia for a vision of a unified Asia under their rule. 

What I'm saying is that it's unfair to blame those things on religion, when it's the greed for power and for a lot of cases, the hurtful mind-set that Westerners have, feeling and thinking that they're better than the "savages" that live at the opposite part of the world, that massacred not only lives but the very identity of those nations.

I'm not defending the guy who went to that island. I am not sure of his real intentions, but what I'm saying is that many people go around the world to spread the word of god with sincere intentions. So I think, the people I mentioned above are very different from these people.

I believe in God, and I have no right and not in any position to judge/condemn anyone. I'm here striving everyday to spread peace and love, despite my many many imperfections.

It's just sad.

It’s warranted, primarily down to the fact that a simple pathogen or virus that he could be carrying could wipe out the entire islanders. Not only did his ignorance get him killed, but there’s a good chance it could have killed them as well. That’s the main reason why they’re protected - for their safety and preservation. The fact they’re aggressive to outsiders is second on the list imo.

People need to realise that there are some parts of the world that aren't safe. On some of these islands that are out of the way from civilization, there are tribes and cannibals. They don't have the same laws and human rights as the rest of us because they've never integrated with society. 

I read about a couple who went off the beaten track in Papua New Guinea (different location but an island) and were kidnapped by cannibals. It sounds like fiction but it happens. If you're going to venture somewhere like that, make sure it's with tour guides. Never go anywhere alone.

I get what you’re saying but religion is included with everything you mentioned. First of all, Christianity was created as a way to keep the people under control. Then it was spread through the rest of the world to gain more power. Your speech implies that white supremacy and religion don’t go hand in hand but it completely does, sorry. When Portuguese people came to Brazil one of the first things they did was to preach their bible to the natives so they could control them. It completely destroyed the countries heritage.

Well if he was carrying anything then they have it now since they already touched his body.

Would be quite interesting to see if the people here would put people on a death sentence for this crime, had he survived. If so I imagine you must all have pretty loose requirements for what a human deserves to die for.

He was definitely in the wrong, but he should have been arrested and spent a sh*t ton of time in jail, not be killed for his unmistakely stupid actions based on beliefs he was probably brainwashed with since birth.

I am from India and even we are not allowed to set foot on those islands for the reason of protecting the tribals and safeguarding their heritage. I dont hate Christians but its high time they understand that no one wants their help. They need to mind their own business. For any of you who are wondering, nothing bad will happen to the tribals who killed him, medically or legally, they did not touch him, they killed him with poisonous arrows, and under the Indian law, they can't be prosecuted for murder for defending themselves. So whatever happened was for the best

He said God specifically sent him there to stop Satan's 'last stronghold', and if he was meant to die then it was what God wanted for his life. He also screamed at the people, tried to imitate their langugae, and he gave them a football as a gift

Yeah , while this loss is very sad for the family and friends, it does seem to me that there is a level of insanity amongst people who believe they have the power to religious convert a group of people.  Also a level of egoism...

There is still no reason for missionaries in this day and age. Christians need to respect and understand the entire world doesn't want to be Christian. 

It has an interesting mythos, but the fact this guy could only view the people of this island as Satanic savages shows he is not a nice person.

He had no interest in learning about their religion. Their mythology. What they believed in. 

He wanted to convert them. No ifs, and, or buts. And people should find their own religion, if they want that part of their identity, not have a religion forced upon them.

And please do not think you can assume anything about my beliefs. I am an omnist witch. According to most people on this damn site, I'm probably the stupidest person to walk the earth. I can see the good of religion. But completely forsaking the bad things is what leads to repetition of them.

He literally endangered an entire tribe as well as illegally going onto the island for the sake of what? Trying to preach some fairy tale ass stories? Bye. His ignorance about the fact he could have killed all of them warrants no sympathy. The dangers are well known, yet he still continued to go there. That either shows how truly ignorant he was, or just how utter dangerously brain washed he was. I feel sorry for his family more than anything, because they’re the ones that are going to have to grieve for him. It’s like feeling sorry for someone who willingly runs into oncoming traffic and expects good to come from it. I just....
