Katy was popular not influential. She was a puppet of her producer.

Halsey is still a joke.

She deserves top 10, yeah
But Bey deserves number one and that's undeniable.

It's nice that she's high up, but despite that, NPR makes the worst lists, I swear. :rip: I feel like I can tell exactly what kind of annoying people write the original lists - like they came from Jezebel or something. The reader lists are ok, but still eh, like what is Hayley doing there at #4. :smh:

Your opinion, but Beyoncé is a trend follower, not starter. Gaga switched up the whole game and had everyone copying her style and music when she came out.

U can say alot of things about Katy Perry, but she is one of the most influential artists.

She should be in the top ten along Gaga, Taylor, Bey, Adele, and Rihanna.

Who does she influence though?? lol. She's not tbh.

I would call that more impact and influence, but yeah, that's definitely why she's on this list.
That being said, Rihanna was a huge part of the introduction of EDM in 2011 and changed the pop soundscape in that sense, just as Gaga did, yet she doesn't seem to get the credit for that, and she's done a handful of other things, yet she's beneath Gaga.
As for Bey, her influence is interwoven in the music industry. Firstly, she redefined smash-hit girl groups, and pretty much any girl group around will cite DC as an inspiration.
Secondly, her presence as a superstar has influenced many stars, including our own favourite, Lady Gaga.
Her surprise drop, self-titled album Beyoncé changed the way some artists have decided to share their work, becoming an iconic pop culture moment, and redefined what creativity in an album can be.
Speaking of that album, the song Flawless (which was a hit despite not being a single), had a strong feminist message, which didn't only puch the feminist agenda, but made a 'feminist' seem like something one should be.
Her feminist message has continued through to her sixth studio album, Lemonade, which was an art piece in its own right, and by far one of the best, if not the best, album of 2016.
Beyoncé has also always intertwined pop music with black culture and the black experience, something not all may know, but most have taken inspiration from. She is an unapolagetic black woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind, and reference (or not reference:trollga:) black and hip-hop cultures in her music. Despite being classified as a pop artist, her music is mainly R&B, and with influenced from 50+ genres, from trap, to country, to raggae.
All in all, Beyoncé is the artist of a generation. She may not be your favourite (she's not even in my top 5), but her influence on popstars and pop culture in the 21st century thus far is solid.

Solid- but she certainly isn’t number one. When Beyoncé left Destiny’s Child- she used Amerie’s producers and stole that sound from her. Her success almost monopolized Anerie’s career. When the sound became tired, she moved on to other sounds(not a bad thing). When her songs weren’t doing as well she rode on the coat tails of other popular singers(duets with shakira, then lady Gaga, then Nicki Minaj). I will say when she finally made the political statements for black lives/culture for Lemonade, she finally stepped out of her box. She puts on a hell of a show, and she appreciates big productions(lots of dancers on stage, big hair, big style, etc). Her consistency is admirable. Her fans push her on this HUGE pedestal-and sometimes you get things like Beyoncé is the new Michael Jackson, or is the most influential female artist of the decade .Why do people do that with female artists anyway? Always a competition. They tend to let male performers be, while they pit females against each other. Is it a fan thing, or is it a publicity thing? It’s annoying for sure.

SF and Lemande are NO WHERE trendy. She's been filling up stadiums for 20 years straight + has reinvented herself in amazing ways. Stop being a hater just for the sake of it and put some respect on that woman. She's a professional vocalist + performer and she'll keep on being the best for years.

I'm bored just by the thought of having to respond to someone who thinks you have to hate someone to not see them as the entertainment supreme...

she's talented enough as a vocalist but she's not good at emoting. she strives to be recognized as more than what she genuinely embodies and buys her artistic cred but that can only do so much when the whole world knows about it... it's a decent product nonetheless. the effort put into producing "perfect" live shows is also noticed but no one really associates great live moments with perfect choreographies on perfectly filled and lit stages and no one really thinks her stage presence is unmatched.

it's a phenomenon. it's not truly elevating her in people's consciousness but it's not ruining anyone's life either. it's a very meh type of phenomenon that occasionally annoys people for a moment there. it usually happens when they're so bored that the loud proclamation of some boring individual's contribution to human life momentarily causes violent psychological dissonance. the condition is then quickly escaped by either sharing your annoyance or ironically suggesting that, although no one is really sold, sure, let's keep buying, whatever. you'll recognize the actual depth of people's public responses and the psychology behind when and why we decide to express our opinions when you begin to grow and see things for what they really are. for now just consider that there's a reason people who "hate" Beyoncé mostly don't mind her as a person and their "hate" is mostly directed at the lazy pop-cultural consensus.
