So if I am understanding this article correctly, when the elevator "fell," all the people inside noticed was loud noises and it felt like it was descending faster than usual? It must have not been in complete freefall, but still slowed by friction. Honestly this is hugely relieving to read, as I too have an elevator phobia. Knowing that an elevator probably wouldn't freefall but scrape down relatively slowly relieves me.
