New York Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the most prominent of the progressive millennials elected to Congress in the midterm elections, joined a protest led by left-wing groups Justice Democrats and the Sunrise Movement outside House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's personal office calling for House Democrats to put forward a climate plan. Protesters called for Democrats, who will have a substantial majority in the House next year, to create a select committee to develop a plan to switch to 100 percent renewable energy.

As soon as she’s old enough to meet the age requirement, I want her to run for president. I haven’t been this excited about a politician since I was in high school.

I was literally thinking about this earlier this morning!

I think it will probably take 30 or so years before the political landscape *might* allow a candidate with ideas like Ocasio-Cortez to be elected. There has to be enough time for an entire generation of baby-boomers and older Gen. X voters to die, because they tend to have a less favorable view of socialist policies. In 30 years time, maybe socialist ideas like a living wage and healthcare-as-a-right will be mainstream enough for AOC to run. (That is, if we don't slip into fascism before then instead...)

By that time, AOC will likely be an iconic democratic leader like Pelosi--may even have Pelosi's position--and she will have Gen. Y and Gen. Z voters who have known her as a politician for most of their voting lives.

Listen, she's honestly the most skilled for the job. She knows what she's doing, and we can't **** around before 2020.

I'm sure in 2020/2022, if we've solved our DT problems, we can get new majority leaders that will better reflect the electorate.

Honestly I don’t think this is the time to divide the Dem party even more. 2020 needs to be a win for us. Whether that be a more moderate Democrat or not. We need to focus on winning.

The more progressive side of the party such as AOC is slowly growing, we are on the right path.

AOC is an inspiration though. Someone who sticks to their values and I’m excited to see what she accomplishes.

And the in fighting begins already. The Right just squandered having the House and the Senate by in fighting between warring factions within the conservative party (and thank god for that!). Now we're going to do the same thing. I like AOC. But we need to get some things done UNIFIED. We need to set the stage that whoever runs in 2020 can beat the Orange Idiot.

Nancy Pelosi needs to step down as House Speaker. We need new leadership. I thank her for gay activism but it's time for a change.

Pelosi is incredibly effective at counting votes, which is what is important.

She will get the support she needs.

I would support a left leader like her because she has s platform with issues that matter to America...

Pelosi is simply

"slay the right"

"Tax the rich(except liberal media)"

AND

Smack Trump

like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. My words give a clue, look inside to see whats true

We lost in 2016 with a moderate. We lost 1000 seats over the last decade with a moderate platform. We win with leftism and with charismatic politicians like AOC. We don't win by sucking up to massively unpopular leaders that should've stepped down a decade ago like Pelosi and Schumer. They need to get out of the way if they want the party to win. :vegas:
