Is Gaga’s career too calculated?

I was thinking about this the other day. She’s met with so many opportunities career wise, and I feel she thinks a lot about the effects of what she does or puts out (which she was very open about during The Fame). Sometimes I can’t help but think about all the potential projects she’s scrapped, which could be due to her trying not to misdirect people and their idea of who Lady Gaga is at that given time. Do you think that’s a factor as to why some projects never see the light of day? Or am I being delusional? :messga:

I would rather say she is "too spontaneous", not "too calculated". A lot of her projects suffer quick changes because the can't stick to plans. And this can lead both to negative and positive things (let's not forget how TFM was created).

Also, from our perspective of fans, things like scrapping songs, changing the direction of the record, messing up with the singles timeline can be a little frustrating. We can't see the bigger picture the way Gaga or her team does. For instance, as time passes by, Joanne will be seen as a necessary album more than the original LG5 even though the latter was more anticipated by fans.

Maybe it’s both. At times she can be too spontaneous, and at times she can be too calculated. Let’s not forget how the ARTPOP era was supposed to begin in late 2012, but she decided to hold it back to work more on it. If she wee more spontaneous I feel we would have ACT 2, the Redone demos, etc. by now.

If she was calculated she would have sticked to the original release date.

You can see it both ways I guess.

The Fame

I would say no, its not too calculated, considering she's a superstar worth 300 million. It's clearly working.

I wouldn't say she's calculated artistically, but career wise you could argue she is. But people held to such a high caliber in the entertainment industry kind of have to be calculated to maintain and continue to have success.

That wasn't her decision; that was her label and her hip injury still. They didn't like what she'd had so far and wanted her to rework on it a bit further.

I always think that her career is actually not calculated at all :laughga: I mean, just look at these events: Venus vs DWUW, AYO vs MR, BDR vs Pokerface, Shallow vs INLA, MTN vs BTW as lead, TEOG vs Judas, PI flopping, ASIB being pushed back to awards season, her hip breaking and the cancellation of BTWB and push back of ARTPOP, the negative reaction towards ARTPOP, the cancellation of JWT, the cancellation of the Fame Kills Tour with Kanye, the death of MJ which lead to her not opening his tour and probably so many more

You can't tell me she calculated this

‘But if her career were more spontaneous, imagine all the things that could’ve happened. I guess she just sits in the middle somewhere. I should’ve made the title “is Gaga not spontaneous enough”.

Could you give an example? All I can think of is Tony loving her style and asking her to collan and then Bradley also asking her to star in ASIB :laughga:
