Is Ariana the new main Pop Girl or IT Girl?

With all these new attention, streams and sales she’s getting lately including acclaim from everyone’s Favs fan base, every article praises her, every single breaks record on Spotify. 

But the question is... is she the Main Pop Girl? Or would you just consider her only the IT girl? 

Is she dominating Pop music or just dominating all the entertainment media?

She’s probably the most popular female artist right now. Then again, she’s one of the only artists actually releasing lots of pop music atm (no Katy, Gaga, Demi, Selena, etc.). She deserves the praise though, happy for her success.

I'm a fan of Ariana 

and don't get me wrong I truly wish her all the success and mental wellbeing 

but can't help but feel her success lately has been more so with people relating to her struggles (or feeling sorry for her) rather than the music being anything stellar (in order to make her the next It Girl the way Gaga was with TFM or Taylor with 1989)

I mean other than NTLTC and GIAW did Sweetner really deliver anything that pushed her as an artist (I also find Breathin a bit overrated, it's mainly a one word chorus after all, I would have preferred Everytime as the third single)

and Thank U, Next being her first number one (debut at that) kinda gives my point credit when you consider her more superior offerings such as Problem, Break Free, Side To Side and NTLTC didn't make it to #1. 

It's all about the narrative with her lately.

Main pop girl for sure. She's going #1, her album is one of the best-selling of this year, she's probably going to have two Top 10 singles soon (Breathin and Thank U, Next at #1), everyone is talking about her. So yeah... if she wasn't before she surely is one now.

Contrary to belief, I think that sustaining a career or bonafide hits with impressive sales and then achieving your first #1 well into your career with your numbers gradually increasing with each release is a lot more impressive than gaining massive hits in your first year and then struggling to make the top 10 further into your career. 

She has been churning out consistent hit singles since 2014 and has yet to experience anything that could resemble a decline. She’s the IT girl right now but she’s always been a main pop girl since 2016 imho. My Everything brought her into the mainstream, Dangerous Woman cemented her status amongst pop fans, 2018 and probably 2019 with the tour will be undeniably her year(s)

I'm fine with Ariana being considered a main pop girl, she's really talented and very successful.

Although I don't think she's on the same level as Lady Gaga, Beyoncé or Taylor Swift for example (each for different reasons).

She's young and super talented. But main Pop Girl moments like (as one mentioned above) TFM or 1989 have to be substantiated with extremely superior pop music. Thank U, Next isz not Bad Romance/Born This Way or Blank Space/Shake It Off.

I would say yes. She's rather successful and she can perform and sing live.

She's not as huge as Gaga or Katy Perry but she's definitely joining their ranks.

Don’t get me wrong, i am rooting for her and think she’s great but she’s so boring and has zero stage presence  yeah her success has made her a main pop girl but she doesn’t really have the persona of one

She's become a main pop girl but she's definitely the IT girl this season. She's 25 (which surprised me? why? idk). This is literally the time she's gonna get hits. I just hope she's smart enough to put out quality, career-defining songs and cultivate a fanbase so she won't end up being unanimously liked by the GP and suddenly be dropped because she's... not 25 anymore.

This kinda makes you think about the sad timeline of a female popstar. Only the talented survives.

I think Ariana is going to have a long career, even if at some point she stops doing music. 

However, I think with this, releasing two full length albums in one year, she has solidified herself. This was a career decision that will pay off.

For her future (whether it be near or far) I can see her writing songs for videogames and anime and voice acting for anime and videogames. I could also see like a weird but cool manga about her being released.
