RadioIsOurs 13,876
I'm asking from a technical perspective, because I have TV class and I'm supposed to direct an entire live performance , and this is basically how I'll look like the entire time: So aside from the performer themselves, what is it that you like a TV programme to do for your fav's performances? What shots? What angles? What kind of editing? Do you like zooming? Creative shot ideas? What is a good example of a televised performance in your opinion? Also my teacher is a joke, he says I have to cut every two beats which means like every 1 second , I mean I tried that and I basically had a panic attack through the whole take, and it looks more like a Michael Bay movie than a performance
Schizophonic 7,015
i personally loved always when they started with a close up and the full set was revealed not before the second verse.

JazzGa 14,621
I see why your teacher is making you guys do fast cuts. It's good practice. One-takes and too long of cuts are the easiest mistake to make which makes an otherwise great performance by talented musicians look like amateur hour (that, and bad lighting). It's really hard to make that many cuts, as you are learning, so it's a good skill to start developing now. Plus many musicians honestly suck live and they rely on the fast cuts to cover up their suckitude I don't like too many sweeps or when the camera moves, especially if there is a lot of motion going on on stage at the same time. Save the big zoom/sweep for the very beginning or very end of the performance, when everyone is holding a pose. Fast cuts between closeups and full stage shots can be confusing too, so if you have to do fast cuts, cut between several close-ups on the same person, or several angles of the full stage, before changing views.
