For the record this is an extremely accurate and reputable website (official website for Canada's  business news network not some blog website) where i get all my economics news so when they say "a source familiar with the matter says", 80% to 90% of the time it turns out to become true tho on occasion they can be wrong

 

Apparently due to wobbling support she has chosen to step down tho she has not yet officially announced it on a speech

 

EDIT: there is now confirmation she will be stepping down as chairman but she will remain as Chancellor

She isn't stepping down as Chancellor. She said that she might step down as chairman of her party. She is chairman of her party as well as the German Chancellor but these are two different positions.

She can still be Chancellor even if she isn't chairman of her party. German politics work a little different than on the other side of the lake

In Germany every party has it's own leader but even if it is the party in power the chairman and the Chancellor can be two different people. The green and the left party even have split the main position between a man and a woman.

Btw Merkel now "officially" said she won't candidate again as party leader for the CDU but she will stay Chancellor of Germany

I had a mini panic attack thinking she would resign from the Chancellorship. 

The thought of her resigning while El Cheeto and similar leaders are in power is frightening.

I'm someone who likes seeing Merkel go rather than stay

There are other capable people out there in Germany that are able to lead this country. We don't need 3 more years of deadlock like the other 13 years of Merkel 

Internationally she might be respected but in Germany Merkel has lost her grip on the GP in 2015.

She had two big projects and both failed miserably. And our economic success stands from the SPD (the party that ruled before Merkel's CDU) and their extremely liberal reforms. These reforms are part of the reason why Germany is wealthy but a lot of Germans aren't and Merkel did nothing to improve the lives of these people during the booming times.

I wanted to say that she didn't do much in Germany and the few things she did were failures, but her international politic was somewhat successful. But as head of a country, she should also do something for her country and not completely ignore it.
