From what i've heard, this is basically a takedown of Gaga that makes the main character (who looks and sounds exactly like her) out to be a vapid poser who cynically exploits her fans insecurities.

So... I'm out. :vegas:

What you've heard from the trailer or...? From the trailer alone, I see your point! But the actual movie is more about terrorism, the impact of trauma and how it ties into capitalism, rather than a specific takedown of any pop star.

edit: Gaga, Britney, Madonna etc. were all definite influences to Natalie's character (Natalie said she watched Truth or Dare and Five Foot Two for inspiration :air:) but I see the pop star aspect of it is more like... a vehicle to explore other themes.

From early reviews! And it's obviously about capitalism; any director with half a brain making a movie that tries to take on the music industry has to approach it from that angle, especially given what this movie is supposedly trying to say (I haven't seen it yet, obviously lol). I'm saying that they've clearly modeled the character on Gaga and Madonna and paints pop stars that operate in that vein as being empty money-making machines that put on a front to exploit the masses, which is as obvious and vapid a take on pop culture and pop music as you'll find anywhere. :icega:

quite LITERALLY the first line from the trailer has gaga written all over it.

This trailer gave me strong five foot two vibe, but it looks interesting. Waiting for the premiere.

dddddd now that you remind me, yeah I remember these takes on tweets at TIFF. Corbet's direction and view on pop definitely came up a couple times in the GoldDerby thread about this. :deadbanana:

I guess it's just part of the critical divide, I'm excited to see it for m'self. :vegas:
