That the purpose is for vanity instead of a need. The fashion industry has also been accused of mistreating animals for fur extraction. However, similar accusations have been made against the food industry. I'm not that well informed on either subject, so I can't say any more.

Exactly; its for VANITY. The food industry is horrific (read 'skinny b---h' as a good introduction) and I am vege partly as a result.

I normally lurk here, but I'd just like to say... I'm a vegan and also a Gaga fan. (Was a Gaga fan first).

I would never wear fur and think the whole fur trade is absolutely heartbreaking and something I have protested against, so I have found this whole issue very awkward and have been forced to consider my stance on how I feel about Gaga because of it. It slightly disappoints me that Gaga would endorse such a cruel industry, but nobody is perfect. You can either accept her how she is, flaws and all, or move on from being a fan. I myself will not let this one thing out of the many things that I really love about her affect how I feel about her and her music. I don't eat meat, but most of the people I love do. My best friends walk around wearing leather jackets and shoes, it doesn't affect my friendship with them either.

Gaga chooses to wear fur, it's her decision. The one positive thing I can see through this situation is that it is being talked about and maybe some fans that weren't aware of what goes on in the fur trade or how much of an issue it is may now be a little more aware and also have been more exposed to animal rights, which I'm sure some do not really think about all that much. /endrant

It's because you don't understand what is logical and ethical. What you imply, knowingly or not.

Oh and i'm right about religion, i'm certain as PETA and their hypocrite lap dogs are sure about their ethical views.

lol

Then its not my business to feed the starving, to promote human rights, tospeakup against war in other countries etc...

BULL****

I'm now going to go on a rant.

I find it amusing how all these people disagreeing with GaGa wearing the coat are coming in here saying they find it stupid that some of her fans are defending her purely because it's Gaga and that we are all blind to what she's done etc. No. I'm perfectly aware of the fact that the coat she wore could be real animal fur. (It has been confirmed both were faux fur, hasn't it?) I'm not one who worships GaGa's every action.

Anyway - my point is here that these people simply refuse to understand opinion. In my opinion, I have no issue with fur being used in fashion. It's part of fashions' rich culture and tradition and I can respect that and actually acknowledge it in this debate. The coats she wore looked amazing. Having said this, let me make it clear I am against the killing of animals purely for their fur. I think it's disgusting that some companies have animals grown, bred and then killed purely for their fur. I am in no way supporting this. I pray to God that this will one day stop happening - but I don't see the usage of the fur in fashion as a terrible thing. I believe if an animal dies naturally, only then it is acceptable for humans to use it's fur in fashion. At that stage, the animal has lived it's life through and it's beauty can be celebrated by being made into a piece of clothing.

Organisations such as PETA are laughable. Sure they campaign for animal rights. But the steps they take to actually made a difference are terrible. Attacking celebrities in public. Causing people to hate others for doing something wrong in their eyes. It's all a big joke. They all act and think in anti-social ways if this is the best they can do to make a difference. I also read that it's fact that since 1998 PETA has put down something like 88% of it's animals? I can't.

Anyway. I think people need to respect others' opinions in all of this debate. I'll have no-one categorise me as someone who has no morals and isn't a 'true' supporter of animal rights because I'm defending GaGa and not having a real problem with her wearing fur.

I think it's disgusting that some companies have animals grown, bred and then killed purely for their fur.

For my point of view they did that to avoid extinction from the animal itself.

If they hunts them in the wild for their fur, the result will be worse, no?

Can you imagine how many species that not longer existing by now if they didn't breed animals for its fur?

Think about it.

You sound like a dear sweet person, and I feel for you very much. I am older than most here, but even at my age, Gaga taught me things about how to accept and love myself, and for that I thank her. I was her biggest defender when it came to her wearing what she wants and doing what she wants, as long as she wasn't hurting anyone.

The issue here isn't about Gaga vs. PETA. PETA are one of the most visible and confrontational animal rights groups, and I don't always approve of their tactics. But in this case, they are a group that only sent her a respectful letter asking her to reconsider her behavior.

When we get diverted into the Gaga vs PETA argument, the larger issue of animal cruelty and wearing fur gets lost. And that's exactly why Tara is on Twitter dissing PETA - it's a diversionary tactic that thinking people aren't going to get side-tracked by.

I have for many years supported animal rights groups (International Fund for Animal Welfare) and others that are not as confrontational as PETA. I donate to the North Shore Animal League, and Angell Memorial in Boston - to help pay for sick and/ or wounded animals who's owners could not otherwise afford medical care for their pets. I am leaving the bulk of my estate to the cause of animal rights in my will, and I was going to make a contribution to the BTW Foundation out of respect for Gaga, but not anymore.

This has been like a body blow for me. Not only the wearing of the fur, but the first snotty answer about it being 'Hermes, thank you'. She's toned it down since then because the blow back has been huge. Go check out the UK newspapers like the Daily Mail as an example.

She and Tara are not going to divert this disaster by trying to turn LM's disappointment in her into poor little Gaga vs big mean PETA. Again, PETA has done nothing to Gaga except write her a letter - because she is a role model. In a way she's lucky PETA got involved because she's trying to take the heat off herself and put it on them. It isn't going to work.

P.S. Hermes is the designer and they don't do fake. If I tear an animal to bits, stick it on a canvas, and call it art, is it art?? Or is it my illusion?

I agree with you so much. I don't understand why Gaga believes that her point is valid. An animal should not be worn for vanity BUT I don't believe PETA is the right people to get involved. I think that PETA should be gotten rid of because no one seems to take animal rights serious when they get involved. They are too hypocritical and controversial. Many of my friends who are not big on animal rights say they wouldn't listen to PETA even if they had valid points. PETA need to stop pointing the finger so viciously because no one likes getting the finger pointed at them so they will defend what they are being attacked on even if they know they are wrong. Maybe not as much in this case but in plenty others. We need a foundation that that can be peaceful and not attack someone violently but still be heard. I still think Gaga has alot to answer for. Her excuse just isn't valid. And I am truly disappointed and I have reason to all the people saying it is her choice to wear it. She said she would never wear fur and she did. But I have to admit I have been trying to make excuses for her but I just can't!

I have always disliked people who wear fur especially Kanye West and the emotions I feel when I pass a fur shop and see people walking in. I always thought that them people didn't have any feelings at all and they were just cold hearted. But this is what has been confusing me. I have followed Gaga since Just Dance and seen how much of a good person she is and then BAM she is wearing fur. It is just so confusing. And this is the problem I am facing. Is she good or bad? Can anyone help me out?

She wears fur she's not the spawn of Satan. You dislike one aspect of her life that's fine but you can't take it any farther than that. It's very childish. It's not the way the real world functions. You'll find a problem with everyone you ever meet because nobody is perfect. I can't believe you're dismissing everything she's ever done because she wore a piece of faux fur or a meat dress. Christ...

I don't understand why they're still attacking even after she cleared it up. :fail:

This is why i love her! She makes me see the world in a different way. In the beginning I was upset about it, but wearing fur IS on the same level of wearing meat. Both animals are tortured unfortunately :

and i LOVE that she said Kim Kardashian is fabulous. Because she is... I adore her fashion sense much more than some others she's been hanging out with. AND she doesn't do d--gs :awesome:

The fact you find the idea of someone questioning their loyalty to Gaga because of fur "childish" is frankly embarrassing and clearly shows your own ignorance as to how the world and people work. It shows they are actually intelligent for questioning Gagas actions and not following just blindly with a closed off mind. People have to earn respect, it's just a easy to lose regardless of previous actions.

I just said she was a good person. And of course everyone has flaws. I just don't see how she thinks fashion is a valid excuse to kill an animal. If she respected animal rights like she said she did she would stop wearing fur and be an activist because I know she is a caring person and I don't understand it!! An animals life is worth a jacket that she is going to wear once and but it in archive never to be seen again?! And I know that wasn't real fur but she wore the Armani one that was real!

While I cannot condone the fact that she wears fur (and calling Kim Kardashiw*h*o*r*e fabulous? Bitch please :nails:), she did make a very valid point and I respect that.
