Kids, we officially stan our generation’s legend. Gaga will be remembered among names such as Cher, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Bette Midler, Michael Jackson, and even (especially after this triumph)...Judy Garland.

Doesn’t that feel amazing?

So proud to be a little monster. Paws up.

THIS. Gaga is gonna go down as a legend in the music industry, here's to another decade of her slaying. :applause:

It was due to the Youtube Awards performance

Dope still impresses me LOL I never heard it in any radio

pd: Bad Romance no.2 still hurts

What blocked BR from #1? I can’t think of any bigger song that year.

That’s because it never was on the radio. She only got those numbers because of an ad that played before YouTube videos :ohwell:

Gaga’s team isn’t immune to finding loopholes.

Actually, all the live views of her YouTube Awards performance of Dope were counted as streams, and that's why it debuted so high...

Well still :nooo:

I still see that as a loophole whether it was legal at the time or not.

There were two songs: Tik Tok and Empire State Of Mind. While these two fought for the 1st spot BR kept being #2 so it makes sense why is the bigger song.

“Tik Tok” is trash*, but at least it’s memorable. However, I completely forgot “Empire State of Mind” even existed until your comment.

*Don't come @ me Kesha fans, I actually have a great deal of respect for her now that she possessed the immense courage to expose her abuser, and I was blown away by “Praying,” not just because it’s a beautiful song but also because her past work, primarily consisting of obnoxious talk-singing about brushing her teeth with Jack Daniels, hardly showcased her vocal abilities or frankly led me to believe she had any artistic ability whatsoever. I’m glad to admit I was wrong about her, and Rainbow was very impressive. Despite still not considering myself a fan of Kesha’s per se, I was simultaneously rooting for both her and Gaga at the Grammys last year.

All that being said, BR clearly had the biggest influence on pop culture out of the three tracks; the music video alone has truly reached “iconic” status within the pop industry. Hell, the opening “rah rah ah-ah-ah” alone has become iconic. And BR isn’t just a fantastic pop song, but the lyrics are absolutely brilliant and frankly go over most people’s heads.

Rereading this comment, I guess I’m still pressed it didn’t get that #1 (although, I suppose it’s a far greater achievement to have the most impactful and memorable song, rather than the #1 chart position, because ultimately people—aside from stans, that is—only recall the former).

I think it’s kind of like how back when I was a kid I just assumed all of Britney’s huge early hits (Oops, Crazy, Stronger, Toxic, etc) went to #1 when in reality her first #1 after “...Baby One More Time” was an entire decade later with “Womanizer.” But we all still remember Oops and Toxic; who the hell knows what else happened to be charting higher during those weeks.

Me too, actually, I was rooting for every song from that category, besides Shape of You :interestinga:
