I love the concept that there's something wrong with people who are sensitive and adaptive and the small-minded kids making fun of them are normal. #wigg

I've heard of this family before, but without the ridiculous "missing link" talk. No offense, I realize you're just paraphrasing the video, but the reporter here is pretty misguided, and the main "scientist" also talks a lot of rubbish. There's no such thing as "the missing link"; it's not the holy grail, it's an archaic term that never did make much sense in the first place. We've got links all over the place; nothing is particularly "missing". It's a concept perpetuated by creationists and other people who want to draw a sharp line between humans and other animals that doesn't really exist.

And there's not much reason to think of this condition as an "evolutionary throwback" -- also a very dubious concept. To extrapolate from this, to the idea that our ancestors were palm-walkers, is a stretch.

Actually, it turns out to be kind of an... uplifting... piece. :D Just ignore all the talk about evolution, which like I say is seriously off-base. (In fact, maybe just skip to 11:45.)
