rumours 45,521
Let me preface this by saying I could not figure out where this thread should go considering its involving the weird intersection of politics, society, and entertainment. If it needs to be moved mods, please do so. As we all know, Kanye recently met with President Trump to talk about a variety of topics. However, what isn't being reported on as much is Kanye giving president Trump "MAG" paraphernalia, that is a "Make America Great" hat. Furthermore, he gave hats to both Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner during his meeting in the White House, with Kushner's hat also reading "Make America Great". Ivanka's had the normal "Make America Great Again" slogan that Trump has been pushing since 2015. When asked about the slogan change, West stated: "“It hurts us as people, specifically black people— the idea, because we say ‘Was America ever great for us?". What do you think of this change in the famous Trump campaign slogan that Kanye is trying to spread? Is it a better message or an even worse one? Do you think someone like Kanye will be able to get through the president (like Kim seemed to), or is Kanye just being used by the administration? Moreover, do you think meetings like this shift serve as beneficial in mending the political divide in this country, or is this just a weird photo opportunity that we should all forget as quickly as possible? Share your thoughts on any/all of this below. LeJudas 6,490
They probably both benefit from this. Trump gaining voters from mindless followers of Ye that do whatever he does. And also Trump's mindless followers that do the same. They probably made a deal getting each other's percentage

wahkeenasitka 1,995
Kanye is a delusional egomaniac that's obsessed with money and himself. Which is why he loves Trump. They're perfect mirrors for each other. Please make them both go away.
FATCAT 60,886
Fitting that the family of a crazed lunatic are enabling a crazed lunatic. For money, power, and media coverage. This kitten over here (meow)

MothaOnThatBeat 41
I had read that the Trump campaign always planned on changing the the hat for 2020 from "Make America Great Again" to "Keep America Great". Perhaps this is what they've decided on now. "Make America Great" is less offensive and kind of completely changes the meaning of the sentiment. Who cares though? The Democratic Party can't find a proper leader and I doubt they'll find someone that within the next 18 months who will be able to kick off a strong enough campaign to beat the Trump Machine. Joe Biden will not beat Trump. Elizabeth Warren will not beat Trump. Bernie Sanders will not beat Trump. At this point, the only realistic way I see Trump being defeated in 2020 is not the democrats having a strong candidate (they simply don't this time), but completely weakening the republican party and creating a coup....perhaps building support around a likeable republican that can steal votes from the Trump allegiance or even go so far as to challenge Trump at the 2020 RNC. Other than that...the Democrats are screwed. They don't even have a unified identity right now let ALONE someone to properly represent and carry that identity into the White House. And mutual hate for Trump isn't an identity. I'm not tooting any republican's horn...but facts are facts: although Trump's "approval rating" is kind of low, I always thought that those numbers were a sham. (The night of the 2016 election Hillary was up 13% in Ohio in those same polls and Trump ended up taking Ohio by 12%. That's a 25% margin of error). His support among black and latino voters has somehow remarkably gone up since his election. (41%Approval rating). He has the highest support from the black community for a republican ever. And Kanye West supporting Trump only helps that. Stats consistently show when Democrats start to lose out on minorities, they lose elections.
Luv u Sum 2,534
I actually think a lot of good will come out of Kanye and Trump working together. Right now all we can do is be hopeful for change rather than things getting worse. It's a step in the right direction

Regardless, I’m not sure I love the implication that America was never great. I think it’s just differently bad. I agree with most of what you wrote regarding the current state of the Democratic Party. It seems as though the party didn’t learn in 2016 that “not being Donald Trump” isn’t really an identity that can get voters out. I suppose we’ll see how November goes.
