Maybe I should rephrase. Once the album was almost finished Mark/Bloodpop were supposed to work on a song that would serve as the lead single and it ended up involving Kevin Parker who Mark had worked with before. Still I was just trying to prove the point that Close to Me and PI were songs written to serve as a lead.

The song sounds Perfect Illusion'd. Not in that they SOUND sonically similar but they sound like Interscope contacted Diplo (in they way they contacted Kevin Parker) to write the album's lead single because what they heard wasn't radio friendly.

i cant at ellie saying the lead doesn’t sound like anything on the album. she said the other songs are darker.

Also, she said that she’s very excited for the second single  

This proves Interflop is behind this : she said Close To Me was written 6 months ago when she had almost finished the album. A PI tea.

 I hope we know Interscope isn't Interflop though (lol). No tea, no shade because it was brought up as a joke, but Gaga's at an amazing label. The only other decent home she could've ended up at is Republic, but regardless I don't think she would've gotten as good of treatment somewhere else. She seems to really have a lot more options, and they never gave up on her or completely cashed out.

   We have labels like Island who leave Iggy Azalea funding her own radio push, Epic and RCA giving their artists tons of delays and basically molding their works (so many artists have talked about this ), Warner. Different circumstances come with different artists but we're at a great place.

So basically she was already hyping up single #2 during the FIRST interview she gave on the lead single.  

I mean the song isnt bad. Its just pretty basic. But very easily digestible so its kind of hard to dislike.

Yes that's basically what she was doing  and she was also hyping all the other songs on the album except Close To Me. Can't wait to hear the whole project.

Even she know it's not something her fans would instantly recognize/love  And I'm so sad about it!!!!!! She said before she's going back to her roots and girl this ain't it
