Lady Gaga's Career More Like Cher Than Madonna

Media loves to compare Gaga and Madonna but Madonna's success has always been purely music and any time she tried to branch out into film it was just flopness

Madonna I believe did have more top 10s and #1 albums than Gaga at this point in her career and fewer dips in popularity. Music success wise she was huge

Cher was not quite as huge as Madonna music wise but she had consistent longevity and always made comebacks (at age 50 she had one of her biggest hits) and she had #1 chart toppers in 6 decades (not all were in hot 100 chart tho)

Gaga has also shown to take dips but she comes back and has respect and seems to also have that longevity (which to be fair so does Madonna)

Cher had half her success on tv. She was a good actress and over the decades was in many successful movies

Gaga has now been branching out into tv as well. Tries AHS and gets golden globe... Goes on ASIB movie and the response from people and critics is overwhelming

I think Gagas career will be more like Cher than Madonna. Music wise still very successful (but not quite to Madonna's extreme level) but she will also have Television and Hollywood success which Madonna didn't have but Cher did

I personally believe as a Madonna stan that Bad Romance is more iconic that any Madonna song ever released.

I've always said that if I had to compare Gaga to someone it would be Cher and not Madonna.

Well I love when people compare her to Barbra Streisand and Cher because they seem to love and support her a lot :flutter:

Tbh I think we will see Gaga acting a lot more than Cher, Madonna and other crossover divas. She is a natural, she could even pursue a full acting career and still be successful.

And back on topic, I agree she is a lot similar to cher than to madonna. But they get along so well than a feud would go nowhere.

Like a Prayer was massive when it first got released. It's still iconic. If it got released today with a modern sound it would be huge.

She's a lot more similar to Cher but also very different. I actually see Gaga as being unique. Of course I see similarities to other famous women at times but I don't compare her career to anyone else's.

Has anyone ever considered Bowie's career ???

She used pop the way he used rock and slowly strip down her alien persona... Well Well Well. I've always cringe so hard on the Madonna stuff.

hello hello baby.

I always get so agitated when I see posts on Twitter that are like "these pop girls would be no where without her" and includes a gif/video of Madonna. Like sure Madonna was an earlier pop star, but Gaga would have pursued her dream regardless. She's made that very clear.

They aren't implying that pop girls are inherently inspired to be pop stars because of Madonna, but rather that the way pop girls release and promote music, their sound, and how they're allowed/expected to act is directly because of Madonna. It has nothing to do with their dreams.

Not even close. Madonna has Vogue, Like A Prayer, Holiday, Like A Virgin, Papa Don’t Preach, Take A Bow, Ray of Light, Music, and Hung Up to list as some of her biggest, most culturally impactful, and memorable hit songs. Vogue is more iconic than Bad Romance and was actually a new sound for it’s time unlike Bad Romance. Hell, even Holiday was more revolutionary for it’s time (in terms of sound/production).

Holiday, Papa Don't Preach, Take a Bow, Ray of Light and Hung Up are nowhere close to Bad Romance or Poker Face, or even Shallow :heat:
