As a straight male (you guys will gasp... I love Gaga because I can relate to her), I can say it is very scary to know that when I get into an elevator late at night with another woman I don’t know, she might be scared by my presence. That is the worst part of me. I’ve also had the fear that if I cross the wrong woman, she could accuse me wrongfully. It is scary. WITH THAT SAID, I wish from the bottom of my heart the me too movement only becomes stronger. I’m saying this because guys fear around the current social climate shouldn’t necessarily matter when it comes to women coming forward. I hate that people like this try to make women feel guilty for speaking their truth. Men will feel uncomfortable but that leads to growth and we must keep moving forward so that the next generation can live in a world where we will no longer need #MeToo.

The uncomfortableness is nothing compared to fear of rape, fear that you wore a skirt too short, fear to get murdered/violence for refusing a date etc.

Also there is sexism in certain jobs that are too "manly". My sister works for a media about football that she's passionate about, but has some fear that one day when she'll speak up men will tell her that there is no way she knows about football more than they do. The fear of being discredited, and taking as a joke, or a slut. Fear of dating a lot of men and being labelled a *****, fear of being sexy, fear of walking out alone at night in an alley. Fear of going to the subway and being touched by a freak, fear of being stalked (went through that).

1 min of uncomfortableness would personnaly be a gift for me. If you're a man and in your heart u respect women, u have nothing to be scared about. You only have fear bcs u do wanna act in a sexist violent way towards a woman in my opinion (talking in general not you), and that u do wanna lash out and touch her boobs and say "its just a joke" for example. MeToo movement is about mutual respect. You're a man and I respect you, I'm a woman and you respect me. That means don't act differently bcs I have a pom pom, we women never act differently towards a man bcs he got a pee pee.

It's a little laughable. He probably just made a joke to his mum and she took it literally. If we could please trend other, more important, issues men face that'd be great. :vegas:

This is horrible, but honestly funny at the same time. Just another thing like #AllLivesMatter to fight something much bigger. Don't give this too much attention and it will fade. People might not think it, but All Lives Matter has been faded while Black Lives Matter still stays. Some people seem to think that these movements for good only uphold one group of people. Hopefully they will see it as not true.

Whoa :udidnt:

Okay so in a move which I think is inspired by Brett Kavanaugh's election and Trump's subsequent comments, a mother has posted in a since-deleted tweet the following:

Now #HimToo is trending on Twitter. This is of course attributed to both real tweets and those mocking it. While I see where it is coming from, I really don't think the #HimToo is necessary as it is obviously meant to directly contradict #MeToo. While #MeToo has done damage to some men, it has been overwhelmingly positive for all humankind and I think it is quite rude to try and belittle that with a few men's problems.

Ugh this is bringing out my inner SJW :neyde:

What are y'alls thots?

#metoo is meant to empower and help sexually abused women.....

I don't see men as a gender haveijg this problem...8-/

Not in the way women are... careers can be ruined because of sex... Gays can have this problem but thats addressed by LGBT rights.... #himtoo is purely a tit for tat effort ...

You don't have to be scared unless you're going to rape or assault somebody, it's not that ambiguous. People aren't just going to police with false accusations all the time. This hardly ever happens.

See above. https://web.archive.org/web/20180101025446/https://icdv.idaho.gov/conference/handouts/False-Allegations.pdf

2-10% of allegations could be classified as false...and that doesn't include....

the vast majority of sexual assaults (2 out of 3) that aren't even reported at all.

The conversation should be on survivors and how to help them.

Fear isn't rational so I wish we'd stop asking people to confront it as such. Of course "you don't have to be scared unless you are going to rape somebody", but when you hear those Internet terror stories about some chick who ruined a guy's life by a false accusation, the stats are not going to be comfort the visceral, emotional feeling someone has to that story. They'll think, "wow, I'm a guy like this guy and if I piss off the wrong person this could happen to me!" Is it sexist, factually incorrect, and does it lead to wildly misogynistic mentalities? Yup, certainly. But I think it's important that we understand that in most cases fear has very little rational basis and try finding some other approach to this mentality. It's no different than someone fearing walking home alone at night. Are the chances *really* that high that you'll be attacked, murdered, kidnapped, tortured, etc.? No, but you hear about those very unlikely moments all the time and so the fear is there.

Understand, I'm not refuting a single statistic you're listing nor am I disagreeing with you that the fear is unfounded, but there has to be a better way of addressing an irrational fear aside from just saying it's irrational. That shuts people up and makes them feel small and stupid which in turn makes them dig deeper into their opinions.

Serial Chiller

I'm telling you some toxic straights are so damn disgusting they make me wanna puke. The other day on 9Gag (I KNOWW) someone posted a gif of the moment when Leo Di Caprio winced at Gaga passing and touching his elbow at the Golden Globes, and all these f^ckers in the comments were saying that he was afraid of being accussed of sexual harrassment by her, then many started calling her tranny and that they would bang her with a bag on her head.

It's both sad and baffling to me how some people are fueled with so much hate and ignorance.

It's not about fear. Men don't have PTSD over false accusations. Men that push back on the metoo movement are silencing women so they don't have to deal with a problem they've never had to think about before. It's about their privilege.

I'm not saying that. I'm saying that while a fear of false accusation is ridiculous telling them to shut up about it and that it's unfounded and wrong is not a good way of going about getting people to listen to you because who in the sam heck is going to take the words of someone who they feel isn't listening to them to heart?

This fear is massively unfounded, but as with my example, when you do hear those random freak stories it's like when you read about kids getting kidnapped for 12 years and that stuff. It sticks in your brain no matter how slim you KNOW the odds must be (as was shown by the stats you presented). Is it logical? No. Is it fair? No. But to completely say that your fears mean nothing is not going to help someone see reason and overcome them no matter how ridiculous the fear is.

I'm not speaking about guys pushing back on MeToo (they're morons; you can have your fears without disregarding the wellbeing of others), I'm saying this dude (OP) here who clearly supports MeToo expressed a silent fear that he knows is crazy. He doesn't need you yelling it in his face how it isn't logical as well. Again, it just pushes people away.

I agree with most of what u said tho jobs being too feminine for men is a problem that exists equally
