To me Born This Way just barely edges out The Fame Monster as her best work prior to this album’s release. Born This Way has higher highs than The Fame Monster and is so personal to my own life journey (discovering I love disco sticks, etc.), but The Fame Monster track 1 through 8 is pretty ****ing incredible. Throwing A Star Is Born into the mix, which has the best ballads, songwriting, and vocals of her career, just confuses me beyond oblivion. Right now, I think it’s this: 1. A Star Is Born: Always Remember Us This Way might be her best song ever, I’ll Never Love Again and Is That Alright are two of the best ballads of her career. And let’s not forget Look What I Found, Shallow, WDYDT, etc. 2. Born This Way: Marry The Night, Scheisse, Heavy Metal Lover, The Edge of Glory, Bloody Mary, Judas are my favorite tracks. The most personal of the albums for me 3. The Fame Monster: 1 through 8, the best EP ever and some of the best pop tracks ever recorded (Bad Romance, Alejandro, Monster, Dance in the Dark). So Happy I Could Die has grown on me so much and is criminally underrated. 4. The Fame: I think lyrically the weakest, but her debut was such an excellent body of work; so catchy, so future-minded, and so completely GAGA. 5. ARTPOP: some of the craziest, messiest tracks of her career but also some amazing moments (Applause, DWUW, MANiCURE, Venus, Gypsy) 6. Joanne: I really love some tracks (Diamond Heart, Million Reasons, Ayo, Angel Down) but overall the sound of the album isn’t my favorite. I still appreciate this moment in her career and think it was pivotal to redefining her career and cementing her versatility and relatability as the legend she is.
