I understand why they’re doing it as streaming is taking away views from conventional programming but I think there’s better action than forcing established companies to invest in markets they might not get a return on. I prefer the U.K. media’s approach of making their own streaming services for their audiences, I probably watch their online content more than Netflix etc. There was even talk of our major television networks joining together to make one streaming service of U.K. made content that would be available worldwide but I’m not sure whether that is going ahead now. The content is good enough but Netflix is an american company helping US shows. EU made sure there would be no huge bias and it helps support local content makers and the public to discover more of the great local contents they usually miss there. It gives other creators a bigger chance to sell their formats. And it IS a problem in specific areas. For example European animation movies get overlooked over US/Disney productions although there are a lot of European projects. I really loved Virgin and NRG radio, I found so many good French artists and I really fell in love. My jam was J'écoute du Miles Davis of Navii for a while. OT: I think this is good, especially when many US series (ahm GOT) are filmed in Europe... Sky started to do it and the Young Pope was a great success in Italy, it mixed the US and Italian talents into one.. If it was that I would get it since it would be about pleasing the consumer and just looking for the best to program but here it's a "patriotic choice" done by a company from the USA which wants to help its country content-maker first. The US gets the best version of netflix while Europe gets half the content and most of the TV shows don't even get updated weekly like in the US but yearly. Most of the time the competition is not fair between American and European produced media so this will even the balance a bit. Content is just as good (and just as bad) wherever it's made but America usually have more resources and potency for promo. A great example is 3%: a huge, amazing Brazilian show that went almost unnoticed while Netflix spent all their effort promoting their unoriginal American shows. Also if you ask me America is running out of ideas and producing the same thing over and over so this will force them to think things through a bit more. They don't dub anything in my country anyway but even if they did, it does cost money to dub like you said but it also costs money to have brand new EU based content made.
