"You'd never guess looking at A Star Is Born that Bradley Cooper hasn't directed a feature film before. It's not just that it's competent or even just well-made, rather it has a complexity and subtlety of choices and vision that build upon one another to make this the instant front-runner for Best Picture, and likely to earn Cooper a Best Director nod on his first outing in the director's chair. Best Actress is a lock for Lady Gaga, with Cooper probably a favorite for one of the Best Actor spots. Sam Elliot is a strong contender for Best Supporting Actor, the film will surely earn nods for Best Original Song and Best Original Score, as well as Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Production Design, and maybe Best Adapted Screenplay. I think five of those are probably locks, a couple more are highly likely, and the rest have decent odds.

Which is to say A Star Is Born is a magnificent, emotional, beautiful production that entertains and thrills you while it makes you laugh and cheer, but also while it makes you cry and breaks your heart. It is Hollywood filmmaking of the sort the skeptics forever claim "they don't make anymore," and it proves once again Warner is invested in delivering a much wider and varied slate of releases than other studios at this point."

"A Star Is Born is a film about the entertainment industry, a musical, full of a wonderful ensemble cast and with a modest budget that will pay huge dividends. It is a type of adult drama with a relevant pop sensibility and appeal to many audience types. This makes it a film likely to win a lot of hearts among producers and actors, the two biggest guilds and a significant portion of Oscar voters. It's a fabulous movie that is sure to be on most Academy voters' ballots, mostly in top-3 spots. This all bodes very well for the picture's chances when the nominees are announced, and later when the winner's name is called out.

Regardless of box office and awards, though, A Star Is Born is among the year's best films, brimming with raw feeling and truth and humanity. It tells a story both all too familiar and all too rare, of people giving everything until they have nothing left to give, their hearts and souls laid bare on stage before the world, in the simple and sublime revelation that love is the only thing in this world that really matters or that can save us."

Even if it doesn't win, people think it's amazing and oscar-worthy, and that's enough for me

After choosing to release a live version of the soundtrack, if they don't win I'll kill someone

I mean, would you be happier if they say 'A Star Is Born is not as good as everyone says'?

Why can't we appreciate good things?

Maybe this is homophobic but after watching the movie I felt like best actor and best actress noms were much more sure bets than best picture noms. But I'm not a cinephile so who knows

i never said that, but movies that get hyped up as 'ITS GOING TO WIN BEST PICTURE SHAJAKAHJA' never end up winning cuz it gets overexposed. by the time the oscars come voters are goin to be like ugh im so over this. predictions are cool but they should chill imo. its like that one article that said ASIB IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE like chill bruh
