Canada's Population Surging Most In 60 Years Via Immigration

Canada's population increased by 518,000 last year to 37.1 Million the largest increase in 60 years

 

That puts the annual growth rate at 1.4% the highest in the G7 and one of the highest in developed world

 

Annual Immigration currently in the targert range of 310,000 to 330,000 was responsible for more than half the growth

 

Trudeau has spoken to raising annual immigration to as high as 450,000 a year but the immigration agency has so far pushed back saying it is too soon for such an increase especially given the current housing shortage

I think the idea is to help offset baby boomers which are retiring and also to accept immigrants with skills in sectors we have a skills shortage in

 

A higher percentage of immigrants these days are immigrants with skills no longer just family immigrants and refugees

 

But I agree housing is a problem tho

family immigrants and refugees cant be skilled?

And even if they cant, you dont have to be a scientist or even skilled to be productive in the modern society.

I didnt like that separation you made, I am telling you cause I live in a country full of immigrants and refugees that most of them werent even educated but they manage to be super productive.

I expected more people to have immigrated from the ME. I know many who have from Egypt.

That's not what I meant. Of course general immigrants can be productive and educated too absolutely

 

I was referring to what they refer to as "economic immigrants". These are immigrants that are specifically targeted for specific needs

 

One thing for an economic immigrant is age. If your young like 25 you have a lot of working years left. More importantly an economic immigrant could have a skill that's in shortage here such as computer programmer or a certain technician

 

Family immigrants or refugees are more random. They may be old, they may be young, they may be educated they may not be just like the rest of the Nation's population as a whole

 

I wasn't saying refugees are generally stupid. Just that a higher percentage of immigrants now are immigrants being targeted for specific things we need

 

We didn't decrease the number of refugees tho or family immigrants tho we just increased the economic immigrants.

 

I think the target was that 60% of immigrants now be economic immigrants or around that
