He was forced to marry to a woman while he was 25 and later disowned for being gay...

Standing up to your family like that takes a lot of courage.  I would like to know how indians feel about him.

So many people tend to ignore or not know this. Plenty of people were open about homosexuality back then. I remember even reading something about how Chinese emperors had gay lovers.

yes emperor ai of han and his lover dong xian. this is taken from a tumblr acount:

“Around 4 BC, Liu Xin, called Emperor Ai ever since taking the throne, began a relationship with Dong Xian, a minor official. Both men were married, but homosexual relationships were open secrets and generally tolerated. Liu Xin bestowed many titles upon Dong Xian, and anyone who opposed this was swiftly punished. Eventually, Dong Xian was made the commander of the imperial armed forces. He was 22 and effectively the most senior official in imperial China.

Historians refer to Liu Xin and Dong Xian as “the passion of the cut sleeve”, which refers to a story wherein the couple were napping and the emperor cut off his own sleeve rather than move Dong Xian’s head and possibly disturb his slumber. Liu Xin was often ill and died in 1 BC. He ordered that Dong Xian be given the throne, but his counselors ignored that advice. Dong Xian and his wife killed themselves soon after the emperor’s death.”
