To be honest, I really didn't like the 'album of the decade' comment. It rubbed me the wrong way.

Minus the hype I feel it would've probably done the same in terms of sales but she would not have become as over exposed as she was throughout the Era. Which I guess is a positive thing. It would've alienated a lot less people.

It was a great album to me, but I think it would have been received better by the public if she didn't over-hype it. She set the bar too high for herself.

I don't think the album would have sold as well if it weren't for the hype tbh. :nails:

I honestly think that Marry The Night still would have been floppy. Don't get me wrong, Its a great record with great meaning and everything. But thats not what the public wants, the sound is too different from what was on the radio at the time and even now. The general public, likes the generic music that talks about getting fukced up and partying, and also music that sounds all the same. After We Found Love, everyone jumped on the breakdown bandwagon and they all started making that music.

Gaga wanted to release MTN as the lead single. I think MTN could have been big as Poker Face if it was the lead single.

gOrl even if MTN would have been the lead single of btw, it wouldnt do well. just the song is not good. no matter when a song is released- if the song is good it will smash, if its not good- it will smash. and dont say that Mtn flopped bcuz it wasnthe last single and people has aleready had it with BTW. look at katy perry- 6 #1 singles from one album.. and without the hype BTW would sell around 6M.

Adele dont think like that, Rihannas music in 2011 wasnt about fukcing in da club, Katy perrys too. For the GP BTW was not what the expected. they

were disappointed

I definitely loved the hype! It didn't disappoint either, comments like "best album of the decade" are too vague to set expectations.

I doubt hype affected the general public, it can only do so much to those who hardly care. IMO, the main component before the release of an album is promotion, which was exceptional for BTW. I appreciate the single order because it really looked solid, even though two singles didn't do as expected.

In the end, hype helps fuel fans during the promotional campaign, and judging by the initial sales, it worked.

It might have done better overall, but I've never agreed with people saying MTN would have done well as the 1st single. It's not commercial enough imo. I'm glad she chose BTW. I wasn't surprised when MTN didn't do well as the 5th single. It's just not single material in my opinion.

It was certainly one of the most hyped albums of the past decade, and yes, it definitely distracted many people from actually taking the album for what it is. The album itself kind of got buried in its own hype.
