The Province of Alberta agreed to support a climate plan in exchange for getting a pipeline built so oil would stop selling at a $30/barrel discount

The new environmental standards include even stricter land reclamation than what currently exists, carbon taalxes and  further reductions in emmissions per barrel and a 100 Million Megatone emissions cap on the industry (meaning once emissions reach that level no new projects can be approved until emissions come down)

Canada the world's 4th largest Oil producers once again got a pipeline shot down this time a court that ruled the environmental review was insufficient. The Government already paid over $5 Billion for that pipeline

In response Alberta has taken the Province out of the plan. The idea was that with more revenue the Industry could withstand tougher regulations but now it does not believe an industry already running losses can tolerate further costs.

This is why the infrastructure in rich Arab countries will always be superior to the western world. This is simple unnecessary wastage of money. The Burj Khalifa cost 1.5 billion and Canada can't even get a pipeline approved after spending 5 Billion. The Western world seriously need reform in the way it spends its money.

Pipelines have been a disaster in Canada period

Northern Gateway and Energy East are both dead. Keystone XL has been fighting for 10 years now

Now Transmountain pipeline even with the Federal Government buying the project from a private company to try and bypass uncertainty created by British Columbia and legal challages now has a court go against it

Canada must be the only Country in the world with massive Oil Reserves internationally trying to sabatoge the industry anyway it can :rip:

Arab oilvrich countries aren't free enterprises tho.. The ruling party or family controls nearly the entire economy, so less waste....no competition.

A single ruling entity (monarch or dictator) would never succeed in the west...

reforming the economy in this way could never happen in a modern country.

I'm not sure if this is what he means but some of our process and legislation in the west is very complicated and getting stuff approved and built especially big projects is very hard and could use some regulatory relaxation

Canada is particularly bad. We ranked 34 out 35 for competitiveness in a study of OECD Nations for permit times and construction related approvals

No surprising that despite sky-high home prices after all these years supply remains tight and insufficient and why stuff like pipelines that even the Federal Government (previous and current) desperately want cant seem to get built

It's a joke if u ask me

I said financial reform not political reform. There are a bunch of smart economists out there that can advise political parties to reform the economy in this so called free world. However, that will never work because politicians only care about themselves and have nothing to lose after the serve in office. For monarchs it's different because if they are overthrown, they lose everything. That is why you see these arab countries providing free healthcare and education to it's citizens even though they treat foreigners like ****. They know that they HAVE to take care of their people or they will be destroyed. Western leaders can do whatever they want and get away with it.

I agree, but smart economic advisors , or anyone with a good idea for that matter faces an uphill battle to be heard...

And economic reform is linked to politics and policy Makers.

True...but i'm not referring to the actual governmental structure of a western country....democracy is all well and dandy but the financial aspect of it needs to change soon and western leaders needs to be held accountable for spending money wastefully. Hope that makes some sense. I'm kinda drunk atm :cryga:
