Bradley Cooper's directorial debut is a heartwarming and competently constructed film that hits you and leaves you breathless. In no way perfect, it is elevated by beautiful, absolutely beautiful music that is performed to perfection. The chemistry between Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga is something beautiful to behold, even though it veers into sappiness at many a time. This is Bradley Cooper's show. Apart from a few sketchy and pretentious moments, he rises to the occasion and holds his film firmly together. Lady Gaga is great, complimenting Cooper at every beat. She does what she is expected to do, but somehow you get the sense she could have done more? Is capable of more? When her singing impresses more than her actual performance, it says something. And her singing was faultless. There is a moment in the film when she blows the entire thing to the heavens. She might just be the greatest singer of her generation.
