Canada has been so desperate to increase pipeline capacity to stop selling oil at such a big discount (up to $30/barrel less than others) that the Government bought a cancelled pipeline for over $5 Billion to finish building it themselves

 

The Court now says that the approval process was flawed as consultation with aboriginals was insufficient and as such the process may have to go back a full 18 months

 

Canada will continue to sell its oil at a big discount to other nations while Trudeau could get blown up in the face in spending $5 Billion on a pipeline the Government may not be able to build

This is why we need to transition to an oil less world, there are more than enough renewable sources to sustain us. Too much money is being misspent and too much pollution is killing our planet.

Why? Cuz we have to keep selling oil at $30 discount so just giveup and let the sector totally die?

 

Just transitioning isn't that simple. At the moment the only viable thing to change is cars into EVs. Not much else can reduce oil consumption atm

 

Edit: I forgot to mention that solar and wind that u speak of replace Coal which is great but they do little to replace Oil cuz very little oil is actually used for power generation.

Pipelines are incredibly safe if properly maintained

A single pipeline will barely increase emissions anyway, and for all the benefits the project would offer to communities, and the fact it's a very safe method of transporting oil, it's worth it

This! It's a matter of reducing discount so we're not selling oil for peanuts. Also reduces oil by rail which is less safe and reduces imports in North America from unfriendly places like Saudi Arabia
