In less than three months’ time, she’ll be a free agent, as the first anniversary of the release of her sixth album, “Reputation,” marks the official expiration of her obligation to Big Machine Records and its founder/CEO, Scott Borchetta, who signed Swift when she first came to him as a country-pop teenybopper of 15.

Swift has already been free to negotiate with rival companies, though she couldn’t sign any new deal before November. Her reps are known to have preliminary discussions with the major label groups, along with talks about returning to Big Machine.

Swift will almost certainly keep the rights to her masters in her next deal, but it’s no secret that, like a lot of superstars, she’d like to negotiate to own her previous albums, which currently remain in the hands of Big Machine. The label derives about 80 percent of its revenue from Swift’s music, says a person with knowledge of the business.

Several music business insiders note that it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Swift could command $20 million per album.

”If she is seeking to break financial records and extend with a major, she could have the biggest artist deal of the century so far.”

Variety spoke with high-ranking label insiders and industry experts and came up with these four scenarios:

1. Go independent

2. Signing with a non-Universal major label

3. Leaving Big Machine but staying within the Universal Music ecosystem.

4. Re-sign with big machine

Wtf

I dont think Interscope's doing her any good. She should find a label that would treat her as the queen that she is without restricting her -- creatively.

Considering the type promo she did for Joanne, I am sure they are leaving her a ton of freedom.

I would guess they have the say in single choices/if a video is made/budget, but the Haus is in charge for all things music, promo and performances.

her dad owns a big share of big machine. That’s how she got a record deal in the first place. so she might sign with them again, or do what Beyonce did by creating a subsidiary label (parkwood) under Columbia Records, the parent label. She can own everything and a make a **** ton of money, but it’s a lot of work. But she’s a smart businesswoman, she’ll figure it out

ACTUALLY THIS IS NOT TRUE. I go to music business school and have read documents that say she still has a greatest hits album to deliver, but yeah it’s essentially over. :applause: And what a contract it was :tony:

If she re-signs, I don't think there is a greatest hits album;
nobody cares about this kind of an album due the streaming era.

Did you think I'd show up in a limousine? No

Interscope gives Gaga unprecedented freedom for a pop star.  What else can explain Joanne and ASIB.
