Our congress is more analogous to your parliament. And even then, we only have two parties. There's no chance at a coalition government because one party will always control at least 51% of either chamber.

Yeah I know. So if anything America could change that more easily than say here in Canada because your President doesn't have to be whichever party dominates the house (midterm elections for example could place Democrats as ruling house while Trump is still president)

 

The President could even run as an independent. That can't happen here. Which ever party wins, the leader is automatically the Prime Minister and so it would be nearly impossible to change the rules on popular vote without completely changing the seat system. The US on the otherhand could remove the electoral college for President and make it Soley on popular vote more easily

 

Anyway my point was, the popular vote issue affects multiple Nations it's not a US problem

 

In My province the Conservatives just won a majority Government even tho by popular vote they won by a slim minority, giving them disproportionate power to the votes they got!
