Saudi Arabia is going a step further now threating to sell off all their holdings of Canadian Assets as further punishment for meddling in internal affairs over women's rights. Earlier this week 15,000 Saudi students studying in Canada were recalled by their Government and all Canadian Diplomats sent home and new trade was frozen

 

The Canadian Dollar and stock market took a bit of a tumble on the news

 

Saudi Arabia is Canada's second largest Oil Supplier after the US (Canada does not have pipeline infrastructure to carry its large production to the more populated regions so we export most of our production and import most of our consumption)...

 

So far they have not threatened to cut off our Oil Supply

****ing disgusting this is horrible in all ways. just today i saw a jordanian video of men saying theyd kill their women if they wanted to work. im so grateful to be born in lebanon of all arab countries because my mother and sisters have so much more freedom and more importantly i would probably have been as dumb and ignorant as the rest of the men in my region

I would say its alarming how petty people responsible for the wellbeing of the masses can be, but... nothing new here 

For some reason I find the spread of misinformation regarding Canada across Saudi-owned media particularly disgusting - cuz a lot of people will eat it up and like, Saudi Arabia out of all places is gonna call someone out on human rights and suicide rates... MOTHERF*****G SH*****G A** W*****G REALLY?

Also, I can't help but feel that this temper tantrum is kind of an admission on their part that Canada's right and THEY KNOW IT... They know that what they're doing to women is wrong... If they genuinely didn't, their reaction would be more confusion than anything...

This! I get that from their perspective these activists were interfearing in their society and they may not agree with Canada's demands for their release

 

But usually such things only cause a little friction between Nations and discussion among Ambassadors that's it... Usually diplomats handle this sort of thing the prime minister's, presidents (in this case King) don't typically even waste time from their schedule getting involved

 

such and exaggerated blown out of proportion response as freezing new trade,sending diplomats home and threating to sell all our assets shows that they feel threatned or challaged in something they know is wrong

 

If they felt it wasn't wrong and the Wester society simply had a different opinion, their reaction wouldn't be so severe.

 

For what is involved here, their response is literally making mountains out of mole hills

Well Canada buys a fair bit of their oil tho

 

We had the opportunity to connect Alberta's Oil Sands (where over 96% of Canada's oil reserves lie) to the Eastern half of the Country where the majority of the population and therefore consumption lies

 

People fought the pipeline with protests and political pressure and the uncertainty caused the company to cancel the plans 

 

I'm just saying, we had an opportunity to end most of our economic purchases from them while making ourselves fully energy reliant and did not

 

Instead we export Oil to the US at a discount to everyone else as a result of comstrained infrastructure capacity and pay full price for our Oil Imports a lot of it from Saudi Arabia

 

I think we really shot ourselves in the foot with that one

WTF? Please tell me at least that the Government doesn't run that Channel and that it's a private company

 

The only thing that is even remotely true there is that Natives have higher suicide rates than rest of Canada.

 

Even that about us treating them like crap is debatable. Some say we don't do enough to help them but they already get special Priveledges like no taxes, many of their communities get funding and some isolated regions in the North where population density is very low they get subsities to help pay for high prices of everyday stuff

 

Yes they often live in poverty but we're not forcing them to live that way or preventing them from developing their communities more. And they have a right to move outside their communities they are not forced to stay there, some Natives move outside their communities to live in cities (I think if they do they loose special Priveledges like no taxes tho)

 

It can be argued we could do more but we're not the cause of their misery either (maybe a few exceptions where a Corporation ruins their land or something)

 

Everything else there is pure BS

Don't worry, I doubt (sensible) people are treating these allegations seriously - pretty sure all media in Saudi Arabia is state media or at least heavily linked to the government, and any 'free thinkers' or as they like to call them, terrorists  are promptly shut down...
