K-Pop is really cringey and the rest of the songs don't sound appealing to me

You didn't even listen to them, but alright.

How'd you know what I did or didn't do? Exactly, you don't but alright just because you don't agree

I only posted one k-pop song and that's what you decided to focus on. But my point stands, pop music is great. You just don't want to press click and listen through the things that aren't charting or made by your favorite pop divas.

No, that's not true. If I hear a song I like, I'll keep listening. If I don't,  I'll turn it off or change it. It's that simple. I like lots of songs that aren't by my faves...

The songs you posted weren't good, hence why I turned it off after about 60 seconds in

Can this whole "music is getting worse" thing just die please:saladga:

Yes, traditional 'pop' music is less popular today than it was in 2010, but that has nothing to do with the quality.

Reggaetón songs like Chantaje and Despacito are incredibly upbeat, fun and dancable, arguably moreso than the electropop mentioned in the OP. Then there's Latin-influenced pop - Havana has one of the catchiest instrumental riffs and choruses I've heard in a long time. And Cardi B's I Like It is way more of an infectiously fun party banger than a lot of 2010 stuff. So if you're saying music is all boring, flat and not catchy today, you're just wrong.

Regarding the instrumentals, are you seriously trying to say that Kesha and Katy's ~2010 music was richer than what's been coming out recently? NTLTC, with all the delicate synths, twinkling chimes and rich vocal layering sh*ts on the flat electronics from a few years ago. And the tropical pop that Justin Bieber/Bloodpop (amongst many others) have been making recently, with all the weird samples and exotic instruments contrasting with much softer electronics just makes for a much more interesting listen. I definitely feel that recent pop music production is way more textured and interesting than the stuff from 2009-2012.

Finally, if you think today's music is more shallow and basic than in the past, well I'm sorry to tell you but - it's always been that way:poot: Tik Tok and Just Dance were hardly deep and thought provoking. Even going back to the Beatles, Elvis etc, a lot of their stuff wasn't exactly introspective poetry. Most pop music throughout history has either been about love/sex in some form, or just flat out having a good time.

So yeah, I'm not saying mid-late 2010s pop music is any more deep or artistic or creative than in the past, but it's definitely not of a lower quality than any previous decades. Recent megahits like Sorry, Uptown Funk and Despacito will fit in just fine alongside the defining songs of past pop eras.

At least it's better this year than in 2017. Now that was a tragic year. I feel like a lot of people are making good music but are all waiting for the fall to release. We had a great spring this year and i think the fall will be AMAZING. The stupid thing is this summer has been a non-event for new releases. But I mean the great music is still coming out, just not charting very well.

People have literally been saying this on here since 2012 :emma:

私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

POPULAR music is so generic nowadays that I usually refuse to listen to any music a few days a week. Especially in Europe, hits are so boring and so tasteless. There are some more glaring exceptions but they are made by a few established artists. I like the less popular songs more atm.

Back in the end of 2011, pop music started to go wrong in my opinion and I was disgusted by the fact how Pitbull, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Rihanna got hits and Gaga flopped with "Marry The Night". At the 2012 EMA'S, Taylor Swift stole Gaga's awards away and that made me also pissed even though I stan them both at the moment (without "1989" I would never really admire her music that much as I do now:gaycat:)

2012 was a plain boring year, but had some beautiful quiet masterpieces like "Somebody That I Used To Know", "Little Talks", "Ho Hey", "Diamonds" and "Skyfall". It was the year of somewhat more alternative pop music and it was beautiful.

2013 was pretty bad but the end of it had some iconic moments from Gaga, Katy, Kesha and Eminem/RiRi

2014 was horrible but in the US there was still pop music from Katy and Taylor, who blow everyone away with her direction to pop music. It was a terrible year in charts for Gaga and switched to jazz, but it made her even more versatile as an artist so I won't complain:emma:

2015 was very boring and music started to sound depressing and more R&B. I love The Weeknd but back in 2011 his type of music would never be succesfull. Drake blew up. Justin and Adele made huge comebacks, but still. Taylor released some succesfull singles but that's it. It sounded all pretty generic and the most stupid thing was how everyone loved it:neyde:

2016 was probably the worst year of my life and of a lot of lives and also in music. It just wasn't it. The only memorable thing was the Kimye vs. Taylor feud but that wasn't nice at all. On the other hand, Gaga came back at the end of the year to save it a bit:lolly:

2017 was a bit glaring because of Katy's downfall (..) and Taylors epic comeback. For the rest, not very special.

2018 had some moments but I don't know whether they're epic or not. Taylor better releases some groundbreaking videos and hits and Gaga, Madonna and RiRi better release their lead singles soon:stalkga:

My favourite popular songs of this year:

* Taylor Swift - Delicate

* Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry

And the other ones…:emma:

Why are people so into K-Pop these days? It's the most cringey thing I've witnessed and heard since Katy's 'wig' at the VMA's last year :saladga:

Taylor Swift is the definition of generic, her last album proved that.

But even some of the generic stuff is just woeful...

Take Zedd's new song for example;

It's so bland :saladga: How can people like this?

My favourite pop songs of 2018 are;

Sanctify, If You're Over Me, All For You, or the whole Palo Santo album...

Dance To This

In My Blood, Lost In Japan

Solo

Audio

Ring Ring (This one is generic af but it's a bop)

Sex, Love and Water

God Is A Woman

Solo is kinda generic and Shawns Mendes was disappointing imo, so it has definitely to do with taste:vegas: I miss the 2008-2011 times when pop music was interesting. Gaga basically let music blew up and Katy and Rihanna took notes from her with colourful wigs. Kinda glad the extremes are over but now it's plain boring.

Taylor has an unique way making songs. You can call it generic but it's definitely not like the other songs in music industry.
