Of those 3 Canada is the only one that has been adding stricter environmental regulations and the Companies are finding it hard to absorb higher costs to comply with laws like more water recycling and better land reclamation. Trump's tax cuts and deregulation and making relative competitiveness even tougher. To add to the pain delayed pipelines from environmental fights are forcing a discount on Canadian crude meaning Canadian Companies do not get even close to the full price that most benchmarks get such as Brent or WTI with the discount as high as $30/barrel early this year. The plan was to tax 30% of emmissions at $50 per carbon tone by the time the gradual increases were complete (currently minimum provinces can set it's $10/carbon tone). Under the revised plan only 20% of emmissions will be taxed. The planned increase to $50 per Carbon tone however has not been relinquished
Gaga Monster 13,001
Carbon Taxes are not the way to battle climate change. Make solar energy affordable, expand tax credits, and encourage the usage and then you can implement a carbon tax once it is accessible and affordable. I think Carbon taxes do help discourage some Carbon usage and consumption by promoting efficiency and conservation However I also think that stuff like what you mentioned get more environmental benefit per dollar spent making them better return to cost ratio policies However tho on something like Oil Production, there's limited ways to encourage these companies to invest in ways to reduce their footprint while producing and carbon taxes is one of the ways But I support scaling down their hike plans cuz I don't want the companies to die either Also to minimize overall economic costs, any revenue generated from taxation via Carbon Tax should be rerouted as tax cuts elsewhere to keep the overall levels of taxation on the economy and thus the overall economic burden from rising

I red that solar energy was about to be less expensive than nuclear energy a little while ago. Since it will be a more competitive energy I guess that many huge companies will suddenly feel like investing the solar energy market lol. I'm surprised by how many big countries don't massively invest in it seing how beneficial it would be in many ways. You see China, Israel and others spending so much public money to help it booms while occidental countries don't rush and let their companies do the effort.. I wonder if Solar being cheaper than Nuclear is factoring in the substitutes it still gets or if it's just more economical on its own. Either way it's a clean way to add more energy into the mix tho u can't rely on it alone as it won't produce power at night and if u wanted to rely only on solar and even wind you would have massive costs on electric storage capacity for when they don't produce. So we will still need some power from hydro, nuclear and unfortunately natural gas a fossil fuel due to its reliability but at least it isn't as bad as Coal which most Nations are phasing off especially China

If we had scheduled it earlier we would maybe now have incredible storage capacities and produce a lot via these new energies therefore not having to be afraid with the fact it's not producing electricity 24/7. Oh yeah coal is the worst! That's what made the London fog from a long time ago! The same pollution fog that is above Beijing now sadly because of coal as well! Tho storage needs to be cheaper if we were to rely on it Good news is our technology is more energy efficient and our economy less energy intensive per unit of economic output So that does give us an ability to absorb higher costs without economic collapse Oil is another example. If gasoline prices were this high in the 1970s when cars were gas guzzlers, no one would be driving now. But because our cars consume less now, we can withstand higher prices Same is true for electricity.

I used to correct him on outdated information and would elaborate further on some of the concepts he would teach from the books haha I didn't pursue it for a career tho because there's things about the work business culture I do not like so I don't think I would like economy as a job as much as I do as a personal hobby Anyway u wanna learn my perspectives I'm about to make a thread on my view of left vs Right Winged economics and why people's opinions that it's either one or the other that's better is flawed and doesn't consider enough variables haha u should check it out when I post it

I been saying this since the silly notion of carbon credits was introduced. "Promote" and "impliment' alternative energy is the only way to lower carbon emissions,.. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still.
