It’s impossible to speak objectively about music (no matter how right you think you are), but if I did anyway? You and I is her best song IMO.

Nothing’s missing in that song. Everything is accounted for: a story with a beginning, middle and end, vibrant vocals, interesting production, an anthemic chorus and verses that take you through every emotion. She’s sweet, sassy, brazen, vulnerable, and self-actualized all in 4 minutes. It’s genre queer and has massive cross-appeal. It’s catchy as ****. You and I is perfect.

Are we the same person? :tony:

Yoü and I is hands down my favorite Gaga song for some of the reasons that you mentioned. It’s timeless and doesn’t/won’t ever sound dated. The music video is also my favorite.

When I joined this forum, I was surprised at how many people don’t like it or find it mediocre. Buy everyones taste is different, I guess. :noparty:

YES! You hit the nail on the head with your perfect description! Literally everything is hit with the song.

Honestly, musically it's her best song:tony:

Agreed completely :golfclap: It's easily one of her best songs and it just ages so well. The lyrics, the vocals, the instrumental all make it sound like a classic.

From the moment I first heard her perform it at The Monster Ball, it became an instant favorite of mine! Hope she performs it again soon.

Also stop with that queen sample thing. Ugh thats annoying

Why? It's literally credited in the booklet, we won't pretend it's not there :omg:

Other than that, I have a weird relationship with Yoü And I. As much as I love it each time I hear it, I never feel appealed to listen to it, knowing the history behind the song. It's sad actually. How in love she sounds in those lyrics. How determined she is to make things work. But you can almost feel how much the guy doesn't care. But she's in denial and pretends they're going to be together forever. It's just... ugh... But sonically, it IS genius! Mixing those classic country-rock vibes with signature weird BTW electro sounds probably wasn't an easy task... But they did it! And it sounds timeless!

It’s not my favorite but whenever I hear it in public it makes me smile. It brings people together and I feel like TEOG and You&I are the most liked singles by the GP. They’re safe and have a timeless feel to them.

I love that I hear this song in dive bars all the time and hear it in karaoke more often than her other songs.

I love the song to death but find the production to be something of a honky tonk nightmare. It’s just kind of cheesy country vibes (I like some country, for what it’s worth). I dislike the Queen sample a lot because I think it adds to this issue as well. It just felt like a very odd production choice for the song and while I’m happy she’s happy with it, I much prefer the version she played during the monsterball before BTW was dropped. That felt more classic.

and I LOVE her jazz arrangement of it

I mean, “Yoü and I”, along with TEOG, have  always been my top 2 songs (since I first heard them at least). They are so good! I was relistening to the BTW album the other morning at the gym and was tweeting these thoughts and after seeing someone post how they prefer BTW: The Country Road Version to the original (same! I was tweeting that same thing), I figured I would post my thoughts on Y&I.

So IMO, “Yoü and I” is Lady Gaga’s all-around best, most classic song, by far. The lyrics are fantastic and so well written, like they pull you into the story right from the start, the chorus is catchy, great production from LEGENDARY producer Robert “Mutt” Lange (my dream is for her to work with him again), the Queen sample is perfection, lengendary guitarist BRIAN MAY performs on it, and it is supported by one of her best videos.

A classic arena rock pop song  in 2011 that sounds timeless and just at home in a gay bar as it does in a biker bar...can you believe?! Only Gaga.

Every time I listen to that song, it just gets better and better. I know it’s not her most popular or biggest song, but I remember when it was a single, so many non Gaga fans commented on how they love the song. It has broad appeal and a classic sound for generations of music fans. Even not that long ago I posted a IG video with the song and a lady I work with commented she never knew Gaga made music like that and that she LOVED the song.

I feel the song is so underappreciated (just like “Teeth”, another fave of mine) by fans, but is definitely loved by Gaga. Give me the Gaga that is inspired by her love of classic rock and pop all the time! That’s my favorite.

And please work with Robert “Mutt” Lange again!

I agree that BTW has two of the most unexpected Gaga ballads - both are larger than life, soaring 80s styled ballads.

Gaga's not a ballad queen but she has made really some great ballads over the years!

Yes it's one of her best, very underrated. To bad it wasn't that big outside the US, deserved better. It's definitely one of her most timeless songs along with TEOG and MR.
