Shea Coulé drags Born This Way

It's quite hilarious to see people complaining about Gaga not taking risks during BTW when she put her entire career on the line to release BTW (the song) to give the LGBT community and minorities as a whole something to listen to and feel wanted and whole. She was one of the first modern major artists to openly express love for the LGBT community in a song and make us a whole part of her identity (many artists have done LGBT anthems but for BTW the message was brazen and in bold print, not just alluding to it) and people want to throw her under the bus for that and claim she's "pandering" to get brownie points? It's a disgusting assumption honestly. Shea's assumptions are also quite pathetic and to me,it seems as if she's grasping at straws just to make herself seem hip and edgy for dissing something that's saved many people's lives. But I guess it's another day in the LGBT community, right?

I love Judas/Born This Way. The public didn't though, because it was crazy and try-hard.

I don't think she took any risks, besides the risk of being cringe-worthy sometimes.

The sound/visual aesthetic in the album is great but the lyrics are not the best imo.

If you look at the music her pop star peers were releasing that very year (Katy, Rihanna, etc), BTW definitely stood out. Both sonically and thematically. I do think that the release of that album was the beginning of the end of Gaga the imperial pop star as we knew her, but that's why I respect what she did with that album, especially 7 years later. Sure, there were cringe-worthy moments, but that album also gave us Marry the Night, Judas, Scheibe and Edge of Glory, some of her best songs ever in my opinion. I would rather her release an album like this then try to just keep rehashing TF/TFM year after year (She tried that w/ ARTPOP and she ended up falling on her face). BTW stands on its own though. Especially looking back on it. It's really fuc*kin weird and that's what I like about it. Again, just my opinion.

I get her points and share the similiar views  on the album though I wouldnt be so strict about it and kinda hypocritical. The whole situation made her look like a fool.

I see what she means but I disagree. Not every song on that album is an anthem, far from it. The only songs that qualify are BTW, Hair  (not really, even) and Scheisse lol

I know what she means but she made the mistake of linking it to the album when it was really about the promo campaign and her statements in interviews.

'album of anthems'

The only 'anthem songs' on it are BTW, Hair, Scheibe, The Queen, & maybe Americano.

Now i'm happier that Sasha Velour won her season.

I get the feeling that she just likes to ruffle feathers and have opinions these days.

P.S. also she's wrong and BTW was written from a place of passion and community.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

When will your faves have a song that continues to cause controversy 7 years after its release? :ohwell:

That rodent annoys me. Yes, BTW's purpose was to spread a message, a message that at the time it was released, was heavily taboo and in turn, meaning Gaga took a risk of destroying parts of her image and losing a selected range of fans she had accumulated to get that message across; ie (Religious people, etc.)

She knew this and she took it, it definitely dented her image a little but the album itself was a huge success. She was one of the very few huge pop stars of her kind to do such a thing, completely discrediting the album's point and impact that it had. Calling it "cringe-worthy" and "super preachy"..isn't exactly what she sounds like? Tragic! Good riddance! Sasha remains superior.

There's a difference between stating an opinion on someone's work and coming for someone's character and authenticity. And the "Artflop" comment...???

Yea the art flop comment was juvenile and made her look super petty. I wish she had said that to Gaga’s face tbh.

Mess this is why she didn’t win...

Also how rude that she met Gaga on her season with the girls and everyone was paying their respects for how they felt and what she did for them.

and she’s standing there probably thinking “Born This Way is horrible”

I am confusion

please enlighten me to death

I'm tired of gay who refuse to accept a sincere nod to the LGBT community. Lady Gaga helped probably 37246% of gay men and women around the world. It brought me out of my depths, and to this day I am so thankful for her music.

Shea Coule needs to get off her soap box. Someone go remind her she didn't win season 9. 🆗

Gaga's #1 fan
