Netherlands bans burqa & other face coverings

When I visited a mosque I took my shoes off. 

When I visited a synagogue I put a kippah on.

When my grandma visited Iran she had to cover her hair with a scarf.

Are we complaining about how it's unacceptable and a hindrance to our freedom ? No. We understand it's a cultural difference and we comply with it happily.

Tolerance is also respecting the culture of the country and people where you travel/live

This comes in the context of France doing a similar thing earlier and that was a bipartisan move that was championed as protecting women's rights.

Fashion covering faces used to be okay with everyone. Why is it only an issue once there started being more burqa wearers in Europe? A free nation should not force people to show their faces at all times in public.

Whatdo you do on Halloween? What do you consider a covered face? What about face paint? What about makeup that makes you unidentifiable?

Just because something was framed as being about identification doesn't mean we should ignore the context and other possible motivations behind it.

What makes a place's culture?

Don't Western democracies hail their freedom? Freedom to do what you want, wear what you want? Everyone doesn't have to become an identical copy of white Dutch people to live there.

Should we also force all gay people to act straight because straight culture is the dominant culture and we must respect the culture of where we live?

I thought y'all claimed to be better than theocracies.

Should we ban drag because obviously only an extremely small percentage of population does it and people are not used to seeing men in dresses and that's not the dominant culture?
