Are you trying to convince yourself that Beck outsold Beyoncé in 2013? :ohwell:

Very true. But Beck is absolutely amazing and deserved that award. :vegas:

OT: This doesn’t seem like it will change much except make fanbases less mad that their artist wasn’t nominated.

When the Grammys take place and she doesn't win, everyone is like "c'mon, they're not relevant anymore, it's all about commercial success"? After some months,  everyone is obsessed with her winning Grammys again.

STOP. You can't do make music just to win awards!

No, it's the other way around. It'll be less rigged.

Basically the Academy Voters pick top 20 albums every year. Those 20 albums will go to a listening session by the secret committee, which will then vote anonymously to pick TOP 5 albums to be nominated (often times a consensus is reached before vote).

In the last years, Gaga most likely made it to Top 20 for Album Of The Year, especially with Joanne, but the Academy certainly chose not to nominate it to give room for Urban Artists instead. With this change, Successful Pop Artists can find it easier to be nominated this year, since the field will be expanded.

How do you know about this? Is there a link for this information?

When the genre committee members walk into the conference rooms on that pre-Thanksgiving weekend, they each receive a list of the 15 top vote getters, as selected by the general membership in the first round of balloting. The committee that oversees the four all-genre categories is given the top 20  for each award.  The lists are presented in alphabetical order, so committee members can only guess at who came in first and who ranked lower in the voting.

For the next two days, the committee members play each other their favorites from the list and debate -- and lobby -- for nomination nods. The process ends with a secret vote, even though, insiders say, a consensus is sometimes clear. “We ask them not to narrow it down so much that everybody in the room walks out knowing exactly who’s going to be nominated,” Freimuth says."

Thanks for this information. This is insightful.

Keep those Grammys, Academy.

Go and keep awarding the same overrated individuals.

In the best song written for visual media category, if a track is released in the current eligibility year (Oct. 1-Sept. 31), but the soundtrack album is not released until the following eligibility year, the track will be eligible for Grammy consideration in the following year so long as it is not submitted in any category in the current year.

This directly affects the lead single off the A Star Is Born soundtrack but I think it's best to release the single this year since the hype next year will be significantly smaller than the end of this year. The movie and soundtrack are gonna be huge this year. However it also means that the soundtrack will only be nominated at the 2020 Grammys.

Bad Romance, Green Light, Born This Way, Praying and many many other songs deserved to be nominated for Record and Song of the Year so it makes sense that they’d expand it now, just like the Academy Awards did when they were only 5 movies for Best Picture. This is actually interesting.
