Gaga did not promote the single even as much as singles like MTN, Judas, and DWUW that are considered her low points. Applause was fun, catchy, quirky in the best “Gaga” way, and fit in many, many occasions. The Cure showed signs of this, but it didn’t even get a video or an initial push on radio. If The Cure would have gotten a PI-sized initial push on radio and a good video it would have EASILY hit top 10.
