What is there to like about Fifty Shades of Grey?

Chickens in Malibu

I finally watched one of these, and could not continue watching beyond 45 mins or so?

It's boring, weird, lacks an interesting story... Absolutely nothing to like! Why was this a big popular movie in the first place, that even Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, The Weekend, Sia, wrote/sang for?

The only thing to like about this movie is Jamie Dornan who could be my sugar daddy anytime :laughga: Everything else really sucks.

Did anyone else watch it and what did you think of it?

It teaches many valuable lessons I believe.

For example it taught me that you could be the most boring person with a boring life and a non existing personality and score a rich sugar daddy with no effort whatsoever. :vegas:

I hate, hate, HATE it. Both the movies and the books are trash. They are very poorly written, the message is very wrong, and the movies are tragic, the actors have zero chemistry and I can't stand that Jamie Dornan guy. Everything about Fifty Shades of Grey is wrong.

Haven't seen them myself but sex does sell.

Except there isn't even a good sex scene :huntyga:

OT: I don't know the movies are poorly done, but what you'd expect when the book it's based on is trash :trollga: I mean I haven't read the book maybe like 3 pages cause one of our teachers caught my classmate reading it during one of our English classes and as a punishment she had to read a couple of pages out loud in front of the whole class, and then we had to explain to our teacher what caning and cunnilingus meant :toofunny:

I actually enjoyed reading the books, definitely different than anything I had read before.  I don’t think they were well written, but the story lines were new & exciting.  I agree that the movies were awful, especially the last one.  I don’t care for the actors that were chosen either.  The second movie, Fifty Shades Darker, was the best of the three movies...some decent scenes in that one...

Phaye Monster

The first 45 minutes of the first film is the worst part of the franchise... it’s almost too cringey to watch.

I think it mainly became popular for “normalising” BDSM, and because it seemed so ridiculous at first. It’s not a bad series, overall.

River

It's a movie for soccer moms that thinks BDSM is cool and then they try it with their husbands but it's not working so they divorce and then they find a guy who likes it but then they discover that he likes a hardcore BDSM and it's not like in the movie and then they kill him and go away with it.

I liked the dynamic between the leads in the first film. It's the best out of the trilogy imo.

I think the films are fine if you just want some pure fantasy escapism. (Although the chemistry + writing really goes down hill after the first)

Also the cinematography in all the films is v pretty and there's definitely a lot of eye candy
