One of the things the article mentioned was that because no human has to be near it or interact, they can fill it with atmosphere that prevent corrosion So basically things rusting out or wearing out just because they get old and rust or rot would happen much slower and stuff shouldn't have to be replaced very often at all Also you shouldn't have an issue like collected dust having to get cleaned off computer Really if you think about it a lot of the standard maintenance usually done with electronics doesn't apply to something sealed underwater. Also for software updates or repair that's easily done thru wifi! Surely the odd time something goes wrong it will be more hassle to fix but it's worth it if it breaks down less often to begin with For example I used to live in Toronto and half the city or more still has the electric wires on polls. It is easier to fix but it ends up needing constant maintenance because tree branches either collapse on a section or the weather and wind damage it etc The suburb city I live in now (Brampton) is newer and most of the city has the wires underground cuz that's how they do it now... When an underground wire in my city has to be repaired it is more work than say in Toronto where wires are out in most of the city. But because of reduced exposures to things that can damage the wires, they gotta be changed and repaired far less frequently to begin with. So I'd say with underwater servers it may be the same idea! I mean our oceans are already filled with tons of plastic waste so I'm not really a fan of the idea of putting even more stuff into the water. And what about marine life? I doubt there is a battery big enough to power the machines for years on end.
