U can't compare Ford to Trump tho :air:

Anyway the NDP wanted to do things that would seriously raise the cost of things in Ontario and to me that was the problem

Canada has already seen a slowdown in Corporate investments ever since the US lowered their taxes because companies right now prefer to expand their operations there. How exactly is it going to be good for job creation to raise Corporate taxes even more right now?

Also their carbon tax is horrible for the economy. Gas taxes are a regressive tax because lower income people spend more of their income on gas than wealthier people do! I get wanting to encourage green transition and I support that but their carbon tax is WAY too high. To put into perspective it's literally 15X higher than Trudeau's National Carbon tax plan ($10 per carbon tone vs $150 for NDPs plan)

I do however like their childcare plan. That's maybe the one silverlining with them. That would encourage more parents to return to work who can't right now cuz childcare is too expensive so they prefer to stay home. So that has the benefit of subsidizing poor families as a form of income redistribution but simultaneously creating economic growth in the process as well making it both a social welfare program in a sense AND and investment. Its rare the two go hand in hand but in this case it does

I stopped reading at cant compared Ford to trump......I guess your media coverage on this election is in deficit ;)

I'm giving you a year and then we will retouch on this subject and your knowledge of economics lol

doug is going to massacre the deficit and only posting one sided stories is u fair. post other pundits and economists who said he will raise the greatest deficit Ontario has ever seen is simply ignorant. your references pro PC articles which is one sided and completely biased. NDP would have the lowest deficit and Doug will have the highest.

I have 2 degrees and voted NDP with one major platform. to resolve the student loan debts/ interest rate and hydro resolutions.

I agree deficits are a problem and in that sense the NDP were a little better but for the economy as a whole I don't see it

I can't fathom raising taxes at this point in time when business investment and confidence is already low

And again the high carbon taxes... Gas taxes are a regressive tax. U can argue they are good for environment but u can't possibly argue they are good for the economy

I don't like Rob Ford in case u think I do

The party leader is not the reason I hoped they won. He was my least fav of the 3 leaders actually.

I just meant the two are not quite on the same level

Edit: also i u stop reading there then u miss the point I was trying to make of why I was against orange

I'm literally having a conversation with you as Mike Harris jr was barely elected in my riding. who cares about environmental issues, LGBT issues, or deficits at this point. just hope to God ontarians have a job when all the PC cuts happen. hard to complain about hydro with no job to pay for your mortgage. but I guess the corporate tax cuts will off set middle class job loss. this is scary times

I don't think PCs will help economy tho. I didn't say I think they will be good at all in fact

I just think the NDPs will be worse that's all

The PCs would kill some government jobs and damage economy that way... The NDP would cost purchasing power to every single person who has to drive and reduced job creation in private sector could potentially be worse than any cuts in government sector

Honestly tho what u said about deficit and cuts are a little contradictory tho. If he cut enough public sector jobs to cripple economy, then the deficit probably wouldnt grow much because it would have to be a lot of cuts

Either he pays for tax cuts thru deficits which will be good for economy short and medium term but not long term, or he actually makes cuts severe enough to harm economy like u said but then the deficits wouldn't really grow under that scenario

The NDP wanted to bring in a tax of $150 per carbon tone or about 15 times higher than the National level Trudeau has in place

It would add some 30 to 35 cents per litre (like a dollar a gallon). Because the Canadian Dollar has dropped gas is already higher than last time oil was at $70/barrel

Cities in North America aren't designed like European ones and often it's hard not to have a car and relying only on public transit

Gas taxes are also a regressive tax because lower income families spend a higher percentage of income on gas than wealthier families so that's not good economics right there.

So it wouldn't make it harder to drive - aka more stringent licence processes etc. Just more expensive. I get you.

Yeah that's what I meant by harder. Harder to afford

The 35 cent tax hike on gas by carbon tax might be more like 30 cents because we're already paying about 5 cents with the current carbon tax. I'm sure the opposition neglected to include the portion we already pay in the equation to make it sound worse

But still it would be a very big hike
