The Liberals totally botched up Hydro making it so expensive now and they have run the finances poorly But I feel like the other two options are even worse that's why ironically I started to actually want them to win because once I saw the other platforms were even worse the Liberals suddenly didn't seem so bad But when it became clear shed loose I figured the PCs were the lesser evil cuz based on what I know of economics the NDP I think would seriously cripple our economy

swordstalker 1,829
Why are people on this forum allergic to conservatism? I loathe Doug Ford as much as the next guy, but I don’t see the point in maintaining redundant government jobs and expanding pharma-care and dental care without them being means tested. The NDP wanted to bring in a tax of $150 per carbon tone or about 15 times higher than the National level Trudeau has in place It would add some 30 to 35 cents per litre (like a dollar a gallon). Because the Canadian Dollar has dropped gas is already higher than last time oil was at $70/barrel Cities in North America aren't designed like European ones and often it's hard not to have a car and relying only on public transit Gas taxes are also a regressive tax because lower income families spend a higher percentage of income on gas than wealthier families so that's not good economics right there. I like the idea of cutting non essential spending to cut taxes and making us more economically competitive I just hope he focuses on trimming the fat on non-essential spending and not going after important investments like infrastructure or education. In that sense the Liberals were good at investing in Also I understand goody promises like buck a beer to get elected but in cash strapped Ontario we need to scrutinize every dollar and I think stuff like that is a waste of money
Economy 53,058
This article makes mention that Ontario is the world's largest Sub-Sovereign borrower in the world https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/ford-s-conservatives-win-ontario-election-on-populist-platform-1.1089721 I'm not surprised tbh. 3 years ago we were running deficits larger than the Federal Government @Florian @swordstalker mess
LeoFameMonster 1,592
I voted NDP and its once again sad to see people on here supporting divisive and trump like politics. but I guess someone with no plan is better than someone who tried like NDP. that worked out well for trump let's revisit it in a few months. bookmarked. Sadden and sickened that doug was elected. homophobic transphobic racist doug Ford. you say "Yasss" ?!?!??! and to those who say the election had no ideal options, that's how trump got elected. high and mighty idiots say I dont like any of them so I'm throwing my vote. you realise that you then give up any right to complain about anything political economical or financial. you have a right to change or stop things. excersise them. as for this election, just wait till the Orange wave comes in less than 4 years. for some reason I think the man with no plan will be out b4 then. NDP would have the lowest deficit and Doug will have the highest. I have 2 degrees and voted NDP with one major platform. to resolve the student loan debts/ interest rate and hydro resolutions. I voted with a plan and platform and not propaganda.

U can't compare Ford to Trump tho Anyway the NDP wanted to do things that would seriously raise the cost of things in Ontario and to me that was the problem Canada has already seen a slowdown in Corporate investments ever since the US lowered their taxes because companies right now prefer to expand their operations there. How exactly is it going to be good for job creation to raise Corporate taxes even more right now? Also their carbon tax is horrible for the economy. Gas taxes are a regressive tax because lower income people spend more of their income on gas than wealthier people do! I get wanting to encourage green transition and I support that but their carbon tax is WAY too high. To put into perspective it's literally 15X higher than Trudeau's National Carbon tax plan ($10 per carbon tone vs $150 for NDPs plan) I do however like their childcare plan. That's maybe the one silverlining with them. That would encourage more parents to return to work who can't right now cuz childcare is too expensive so they prefer to stay home. So that has the benefit of subsidizing poor families as a form of income redistribution but simultaneously creating economic growth in the process as well making it both a social welfare program in a sense AND and investment. Its rare the two go hand in hand but in this case it does
