Twitter calling for Bill Maher firing now

On twitter, bill maher is beginning to trend, with people calling for his firing because of an incident a few months ago where he said in a joke that fell flat the N word. people are claiming a double standard between he and roseanne.

idk what liberals are thinking but THIS is why people need to think things through. roseanne (in my belief) isn't a racist and yet she was fired for a putting out a racist joke (though people are saying that it was an accumulation of things, with that joke being the last straw). there are some parallels here, and through the rationale that "we don't tolerate the propagation of racism through jokes" argument that i've seen on CNN today, bill maher should also be fired. liberals boxing themselves in like this because they don't THINK.

roseanne is kind of off the wall bordering on batsh*t i'm not going to deny that. but i don't (as of yet) think she's a racist. :selena:

i also don't watch any interviews with her in it bc most of the time she's not making sense. but STILL i don't think she's a racist.

Roseanne is an alt-righter conspiracy theorist. She's a racist.

This isn't the first time she has referred to a black person as an ape. She deserved what she got.

Bonkers

Ok, if you want to equate using the n-word in an off-the-cuff remark with making personal insults, and accusations that are in fact only debunked conspiracy theories.  Sure.  :wtfga:

If Bill Maher made an racist/offensive joke on par with Roseanne’s then he should be fired too :awkney: it’s not like Bill Maher was some sort of liberal hero anyways and I’m assuming no one would really care if he did get fired :awkney:

Uh Red Wine... Convict... Gah Gah...

i agree with the former, and i disagree with the latter. i have to say that if they fired her because of her alt right conspiracy theories, i could see that rationale. but still i can't with conviction go around saying: yes, roseanne is a racist.

For the uninitiated, here's what Bill said:

Maher: Adults dress up for Halloween. They don't do that in Nebraska?

Sasse: It's frowned upon. We don't do that quite as much.

Maher: I gotta get to Nebraska more.

Sasse You're welcome. We'd love to have you work in the fields with us.

Maher: Work in the fields? Senator, I'm a house n*****.

For context, Ben Sasse is the Republican senator from Nebraska.

He probably shouldn't have used that word because now everything he says will get overshadowed by that joke. I won't condemn or condone what he said, but Twitter should should spend it's energy going after actual racists, not Bill Maher. They should start with Joe Arpaio, who makes my blood boil.

Rosanne comparing a woman to if "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby" is racist as all hell. If she wants to talk like that she's going to have to deal with being called a racist and the repercussions that come with it.

Lol, Roseanne is pretty racist, idk why you are hesitant to get on board with that...

In fact im curious, what makes someone A Racist to you? Please respond @Eighteen

I don't like Bill Maher as I believe he's become dangerously centrist with his disavowel (and complete misunderstanding) of "identity politics" and hes advocated that Democrats leave and distance themselves from people like "special snowflakes" if they want to win politically.

But I do/did generally appreciate his platform and he is pretty good at having Conservatives on his show and utterly demolishing their opinions live because they are so ridiculous anyone with a critical mind can tell. I don't think hes more racist than any other or most "average" white people, and while the joke definitely left a bad taste in my mouth, it was clear that this was a very BAD joke that should have been thought through, and not him making a racist statement towards black people or about black people (or any other people of color), so I think this is a false equivalency. Can't say the same about Roseanne, as she willfully, in a serious manner, has insulted black people and used racial epithets, and also peddle conspiracy theories by alt right (read: white supremacists) persons.

私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

i agree that it's racist i'm not denying that by all means. but i also understand that people say stupid things from time to time but it doesn't necessarily impugn their whole outlook on a particular thing. i don't stand steadfast in my belief about roseanne. if it comes to light (like people here have said) that roseanne has said racist things time and time again, showing a convincing pattern of these things, then fine. i just need the concrete evidence cause i never form an opinion off of hearsay. and it would need to be a consistent thing, not just like 1 or 2 more tweets because having watched roseanne, the show, of her own creation and vision, promotes, for the most part, racial equality (though there are some softwash jokes in it that people have problems with).

someone saying a racist joke to me doesn't automatically mean the person telling it is a 100% racist right off the bat. it simply doesn't to me and in my view no competent and discerning person would have that kind of criteria to determine who is and who isn't a racist.

what makes someone a racist to me.... idk many things. for instance i believe donald trump is a racist. please note that i've always thought donald trump was an idiot from the moment he announced he was running, but i had to see contemporary and various evidence for me to feel comfortable saying he's a racist and in the short year and a half he's provided that and it's undeniable that he is a downright racist.

roseanne is a complicated to untangle because on the one hand her show was quite pro black and she stood with black people (and roseanne is tightly knit to her show and had much influence over the content of it). that being said, it's hard to believe that a racist would propagate that kind of message?

in short: a few stupid jokes just isn't enough for me to say somebody is a racist. i need more.
