Hayley Kiyoko and Kehlani Aren't Fans of Rita Ora's 'Girls'

Also, I feel like everytime a song like this is released, the singer says that she's experimented with women before, to give us all an excuse to sing about bi-curiosity. It's just tiring at this point.

Respect to Kehlani, not only for what she wrote but how she worded it. I mean I'm really only a fan of Charli and Cardi really, nothing against Rita or Bebe just not going to to the fake "I love them all" thing, but the track totally fetishised lesbianism and was made for the male gaze.

It was disappointing to see Charli and Cardi on that track cause I like them - I don't hate Rita or Bebe and still don't after this, but they also shouldn't have been on this track. That's what it is for me. I'm not 'cancelling' them - they just should have known better  It's not 2008 any more where artists think it's cute to do the "Ooh I kissed a girl, hope my boyfriend don't mind teehee" thing anymore... We've evolved.

Good. Me neither. The lyrics are super smh and super cringe, super pandering :madge:

Yeah they may be cringey but sadly that is the type of music that gets the most exposure lol. At least it's not another basic sex song and has a positive message unlike 99% of songs on the radio these days.

oh boy. Rita Ora clearly stated in the song that she is a bisexual chanteuse. The song is in HER OWN experience of being a bisexual woman. Early stages of bisexuality are naive; you want to experiment and I can kind of see why some people may find it problematic but come on.

I don’t think that Rita’s intentions were to trivialise lesbian relationships. The song reflects her own experiences and don’t reflect ALL lesbian/bisexual women.

Yeah it definitely perpetuates the 'gay is a lifestyle choice' cliche but on the other hand it also gets the conversation going so it did some good. It's also a bop tbh.

I don't agree with call out culture anymore. I don't like the song one bit, but to try and silence peoples right to create whatever they want is so annoying at this point. If you don't like or agree with something don't use your platform to shut everything down. Just don't consume it. Its not like this song was ever going to go anywhere anyway. Its like when people got all up in arms about Iggy Azaleas existence in rap, she was destined to fade away any second anyway like they really werent going to have to worry about her for long, people are so drama.

And it’s written by a bunch of men.:air:

By men!? Gasp.

There is nothing wrong with men creating art about their fantasy of women experimenting with one another.

Call Me By Your Name and Broke Back Mountain, the two most high profile modern Queer love stories, were written by heterosexual cis-gender authors.

Let's not turn into the Art Police.

Hayley Kiyoko is one entitled and privileged lesbian.

What a way to put people into labels and segregate them and to use your OWN experience to discharge others.

A shame to this supposed-to-be inclusive and diversified LGBTQ+ community
