It's good that heterosexual's may feel more welcome experimenting/exploring sexuality, but its bad to do so at the expense of queer people and their perception. I'm going to say that its okay to give pats on the back in this case, but there's no reason that pat on the back can't also be followed by constructive criticism, no? I'm interested in what Rita + co have to say if they respond to this criticism, which is more than warranted. I don't agree that songs by heterosexuals about homosexuality have a negative impact on the perception or acceptance of homosexuality. That seems to be a common claim made by certain Social Justice folks that lacks any evidence to back it up. But if you feel the need to educate pop stars every time they play with sexuality in a non-linear and non-serious way, have at it. I'll be in the back enjoying the show. For one, this is more general than my statement, so apologies if it read that way... Songs by heterosexuals about homosexuality are not inherently bad in intent or effect just by nature of being by heterosexuals... It's about the songs themselves. It's more than possible to create songs about exploring sexuality that don't demean entire communities, spread negative stereotypes etc. It's really not that much to ask No one's saying "Rita ora + co are CANCELLED. Never liking them again", nor that the response should be a riot or boycott of her music. Hopefully when she responds, its with an apology and something to indicate that she understands what she's missed, but most likely it'll be a super contrived, defensive message about how this is just "about my experience" or something Bottom line, It's cool that Rita Ora wanted to explore her attraction to women, embrace it, etc. through song. It's not cool however that some of the lyrics reinforce the idea that bisexuality is a game girls play for men, and a temporary state of being when you ingest alcohol or party Why cant you accept these both as true? Or that the latter requires any sort of statement at all. Inaction is ineffective, no? You can enjoy the show because it doesn't affect you btw. Throwing out a scary word here, but have you considered your privilege in all of this? ~~~ As for "evidence" I don't have the time to explain the basic sociology and science behind how stereotypes, socialization, and the spreading of ideas work in depth... Generally, people hear, see, and experience actions, events, messages, and ideas that help to reinforce and entrench overarching ideas about people. They may already strongly believe these ideas, they may reject the ideas, or be on the fence about them. They may also, as studies have shown, claim to reject the idea, but still behave in ways that indicate they do believe it subconsciously - perhaps because of mere exposure (think: the false notion that if an idea is repeated enough times, it must be because it is slightly true). This is a pretty well established phenomenon throughout entirety of human society, with much research and data supporting it. The topic of homosexuality in music is not a special case by any means. (Also, if you will, consider that you hear these kinds of things not from the stigmatized moniker of "Social Justice ___" but from people that are at least somewhat educated in these subjects, at least more so than the general population) 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

I don't believe they owe anyone an apology, nor are they owed a lecture. That is my opinion, as a queer person, who despite your claims to the contrary, is effected by the public's perception of queerness. We will have to just agree to disagree. Fine about the overall point, but I'm not following this. Are you saying as I've claimed you are not? I'm aware that you are a queer person, and I don't think anything I've said implies that the affected party cannot have differing viewpoints. 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

elijahfan 26,275
The concept is a bit overdone and adds absolutely nothing to the conversation... but, it’s still an enjoyable bop.
