She did, in fact come for Cardi in her original verse. She did, in fact, change the verse. And, she is, in fact, using this fabricated feud to promote her new music. She didn't come for Cardi in her original verse she was trying to give props to Cardi, who is a newcomer, by saying she is the new star QB and Nicki, as the veteran, is like her superstar coach. Obviously it places her above Cardi - but it's really meant more as "This is the newcomer, she is killing it, this is me the veteran passing down my wisdom and coaching her through the big plays." She pays respects to those who come before her in previous verses, positioning herself as the "female Weezy" crediting Weezy for her success and even recently stating that Jay is still a kingpin and the only other person she would have signed to. So she doesn't see this as a diss, she just sees it as an acknowledgment that she has been in the game for a decade now, she is a veteran, and as the veteran she is going to pass her knowledge down to the new superstar coming up. She DID change the verse at Cardi/Atlantic's request which Nicki has said but if it was meant as a diss, she wouldn't have changed her verse from "If Cardi the QB, I'm Nick Lombardi" to "If Quavo the QB, I'm Nick Lombardi". The reason Quavo doesn't see it as a diss is because it shouldn't be seen as a diss for a veteran to take a newcomer under their wing. The reason Nicki is upset is because she welcomed Cardi on the track, she changed her verse to make Cardi more comfortable, she expressed concern that she didn't want it to come across as shady that her and Cardi aren't together in the video (due to the fact Cardi was using her hairdresser) because she is smart and knows the media narrative of "Nicki is threatened by other females". Yet in the interviews following (With rumors swelling that Nicki was dissing Cardi on Motorsport, that her original verse was dissing Cardi and that she refused to film on set with Cardi) Cardi was like "Oh yeah apparently Nicki changed her verse after I came on board" which, firstly, wasn't needed but it's also shady to be acting like she hadn't heard the verse when she did and got Atlanta to change it. She was also like "Yeah I don't know why she wasn't on set, I think it was just scheduling issues you know..." even though she knew the reason Nicki wasn't on set was because Cardi was using her hairdresser and Nicki had wanted to film with Cardi.... So here's Nicki welcoming Cardi onto the track, making concessions for Cardi, worrying about looking shady for not being able to film with Cardi (while there are all these rumors swelling) and instead of setting the record straight Cardi makes Nicki look bad and fuels those rumors by talking about how Nicki changed her verse and acting like she didn't know the exact reason why she couldn't be on set. All Nicki really wanted was for Cardi to be like "Look, I love and respect Nicki and it means a lot for another female - especially of Nicki's stature - to be supportive of me. It was originally going to be just her and Quavo on the song but she was happy to have me on the track! Me and Nicki are totally cool and unfortunately, even though we both wanted to film with each other, we share the same hairdresser and so there was just unfortunate scheduling conflicts that made it impossible". I don't think Cardi meant to be shady, I actually do think she has tried to squash rumors of beef and has tried to show love, but I get why Nicki's upset when she is fresh from the Remy beef with the narrative hanging over her that she doesn't support other females, she does everything she can to accommodate Cardi and then Cardi just puts fuel on all those rumours by blabbing about how Nicki changed her verse once she got on the track (without giving context) and didn't set the record straight about the change of the verse or Nicki not being on set despite knowing the whole story. THAT is the Nicki apologist version of it. You’re obviously a fan and I don’t blame you for trying to defend her. But if Nicki is trying to tout herself as Cardi’s mentor, she should actually mentor her. This, however, is just trying to assert dominance over Cardi. Cardi is an honest woman. Nobody can deny that so far. If Nicki were actually trying to take her under her wing, Cardi would be giving credit where credit is due. Fact is Cardi has no personal attachments to Nicki, because none have been formed. So, please, spare this QB/Lombardi metaphor. She ain’t doing **** for Cardi; thus, explaining this instagram comment. How exactly has Nicki been nice to Cardi? The **** has she done for her that merits the ass-kissing that Nicki is requesting? And, for the record, the track was Quavo’s. Not Nicki’s. Bringing Cardi onto the track was the Migo’s idea. Had it not been for them, Nicki would have continued ignoring that fact that Cardi is even in the game.

I'm actually not that much of a Nicki stan lol - but Nicki's version has been backed up by Quavo and others. "If Nicki is trying to tout herself as Cardi’s mentor, she should actually mentor her. This, however, is just trying to assert dominance over Cardi. " Right, and she should do the same for Quavo now? She should actually mentor Quavo because now the line implies she is taking him under her wing and coaching him (the star QB) through the big plays? No sis it's a metaphor, it's rap, she isn't actually trying to claim that she is Cardi's coach she is just saying that she is accepting and supportive of Cardi as the new superstar. To try and be like "Oh she said it as a metaphor in a rap so she should actually do it!" is the most unrealistic thing I've heard. About this trying to assert dominance over Cardi... I mean... I don't think there would be an issue if Jay Z said this about Quavo or Kanye said this about Chance or anything like that (like how there were no articles written about Nicki "dissing" Quavo on Motorsport with that line) - I think it would have been seen as an endorsement because it's generally been regarded that veterans deserve respect and a line like that is clearly an endorsement as the line is, at least metaphorically, placing the newcomer in the position of the talented, star quarterback who gets all the fame and attention and the veteran in the position of coach who knows the ins and outs of the game and is trying to guide them to the win. With Nicki the 10 year veteran and Cardi the newcomer with (at that point) one single to her name, that's not a poor comparison. It's not a diss to recognise that Nicki is a veteran and Cardi is a newcomer, in fact she phrased it in a way that positions Cardi as the new star. You can hold on to this "Nicki is clearly dissing Cardi" BS - but there is a reason no articles where written calling the line a diss at Quavo when the song was first released, there is a reason why there wasn't media article after media article discussing it, there is a reason why there where no rumours of beef between Nicki and Quavo.... BECAUSE IT WASN'T A DISS!! The line simply means "I've been here for ten years, I'm the vet I know the ins and outs of the rap game, i'm established, I'm like a coach - here's this new talented rapper starting out their career, like the new star QB, and here I am showing them the plays and coaching them so they can win the game" Being on a song with a successful, iconic veteran who has been in the game 10 years and having that veteran be like "Yeah, this chick here is my star Quarterback" is not a diss. It wasn't seen as a diss when aimed at Quavo, it wouldn't have been seen as a diss if Drake called some newcomer his QB, it wouldn't have been seen as a diss if Kendrick called some newcomer his QB, it wouldn't have been seen as a diss if any of the male vets called some new comer his QB. It would have been "Oh ****... Drake/Kendrick/Jay/Kanye/Eminem/Whoever is endorsing this newcomer as the new star QB and saying the newbie is under their wing." Suddenly though, since it's two females and the media wants to create beef and wants to fuel this "there can only be one" narrative, when it's revealed the line was originally "If Cardi the QB, I'm Nick Lombardi" suddenly that line is a diss and is a problem Can you not see how transparent it is that when directed at Quavo no eyebrows were raised but suddenly aimed at Cardi it's a drag? You can't on one hand think the line when directed at Cardi was a giant diss but act like the new version directed at Quavo is fine... If Cardi wasn't here for the line, then fine, Nicki changed it for her - but let's not act as if it was a diss from Nicki. No reason why it would be seen as a diss when targeted towards Cardi when no eyebrows are raised when it's targeted towards Quavo. It's funny because I was actually running around when the song first dropped talking about how it was obvious Nicki was sneak dissing Cardi only because she was dropping all these "Ardi" rhymes without mentioning her making it seem as if she was addressing her in all the following rhymes while skirting her name. When it was revealed the original line was "If Cardi the QB" then suddenly it made more sense - she was originally giving props to Cardi and then following the rhyme scheme. To me it comes across as more shady without name dropping Cardi first.... Credit where credit is due is doing what every rapper does when they are coming up - showing respect to the greats and the veterans.... Nicki still to this day shows love to veterans like Foxy Brown saying things like: "KING FOX. Her flow & delivery is still unmatched. You can't listen to me w/o hearing her influence. She's still the only thing I compete w/when it comes to precision of flow, delivery & execution. Trini QUEEN 🇹🇹 Happy Birthday my love @foxybrown." I don't think Nicki even expects that - she said she was cool when Cardi finally showed love... And like I said - I think Cardi has been trying to squash rumours of beef and show Nicki love... More than Nicki has given credit for or seen due to being in her own head. But it's just understanding Nicki's point of view.... She welcomed Cardi on the track when it was supposed to be just her and Quavo, despite you downplaying that she could have left the track, she could have said no to Cardi being on. She changed her verse to accommodate Cardi when she had a problem with it, she was texting Quavo and everyone telling them she wanted to shoot with Cardi and didn't want it to seem shady that she couldn't, she was tweeting out the truth of how things went down when people where accusing her of sneak dissing Cardi. She did everything she could to welcome Cardi and squash any chance of beef - yet when the rumours started that there was beef.... Cardi (I think unintentionally) threw her under the bus by acting ignorant about why she wasn't on set and unnecessarily talking **** about how Nicki 'apparently' changed her verse when she got on.... About Nicki "ignoring" the existence of Cardi... She didn't have work out, she wasn't doing interviews... Like she gave major props to Cardi when Bodak Yellow was #1. What else did you expect from her? To immediately set out and do interviews once Cardi started popping to show love? I don't know why you are so set on this "bad guy" Nicki narrative, but you literally didn't address anything I wrote when it came to why Nicki would be upset. I think it's the most obvious misunderstanding in the world compounded by media and people like you who are actively trying to push a beef - but really this is Nicki being sensitive after the Remy Ma scenario and being aware of the rumours circulating that she doesn't like other female rappers... Cardi being oblivious to this is and being like "Yeah me and Nicki cool, it's interesting she changed her verse when I hopped on and I don't know why she couldn't make it on set... It's a shame but I think there was a conflict of schedules or something idk" made Nicki upset because whether Cardi is aware or not it's just feeding those rumors and pushing that narrative when Nicki feels she has tried everything to avoid that. ^This wasn't helpful in clearing up beef and it seemed shady. Especially when rumours are circulating that Nicki's original verse was a Cardi diss. All Nicki wanted was the respect a man would get if they were 10 years in the game and a newcomer had gotten on the track with them. Some "Yeah Nicki is cool, it was amazing to be on the track with her and have that kind of endorsement. There is no beef we've talked and we're cool" Nicki isn't even beefing with Cardi... She just said she was upset with how the situation went down and was glad when Cardi showed her love. I don't think Cardi is the bad guy, I don't think Nicki is the bad guy, I think there were some misunderstandings and some situations that led to feelings being hurt.... Whatever... She wasn't saying she was actually the coach and Cardi is the QB... She is just drawing comparisons of herself to Vince Lombardi because she is a veteran who knows the game who has shown the plays to upcoming artists like Cardi who are the new stars (not even just through actual mentorship but through her career and how she has 'played the game' and built her empire). It's really not that serious. It wasn't meant as a diss, Cardi didn't like it so it was changed Where is the issue with what Nicki did? The only reason this line is being so heavily scrutinized is because it's being used as some sort of evidence as a diss... It's like analysing a joke to death... Eventually it's just not funny. When you're not trying to analyse a goddamn metaphor to death and just take it from it's intended meaning "I'm the veteran whose now symbolically supporting the young superstar coming up" it's just a normal, unremarkable line.
