They are constantly compared too and pinned against one another (which I don’t agree with nor do I think is necessary, their totally different and awesome in their own ways) but I wanna talk about voice.

So who has a more distinctive voice?

I would say they both do, but whose is more recognizable and “unique”?

I feel like Katy's is more recognizable because Gaga uses her voice differently in each song, so she doesn't tend to sound the same, so for a casual listener, it would be easier to get confused with Gaga's voice than Katy's.

Radio Ga Ga

Katy uses auto tunes but her voice is really recognizable and very suitable for pop music

Katy's voice really blends along with other artists too much to me,IMO. I mean when I first heard Domino by Jessie J I swore it was Katy. :poot:

So I definitely think Gaga's voice is far more unique and distinctive than Katy's. I could recognize Gaga's voice immediately in any situation.

Katy's, Gaga has evolved vocally so much dince the begining her voice got better and stronger

Katy's voice is the same in every album, not saying it's a bad thing or anything. So it's easier for peopke to recognize her

... and now i just sit in silence.

Gaga’s voice is more unique, but Katy’s is more recognizable.

Gaga’s voice is extremely versatile; she can sing in different tones, styles, keys, etc. If you look at her entire discography, she’s used several different vocal filters and effects (compare TF/M to AP to Joanne). As a stan, it’s easier for us to recognize Gaga’s voice because we listen to her all the time. But if you’re a casual fan/GP, then it can be hard to identify her voice. I’ve seen and heard several people say that they didn’t know Gaga sang certain songs such as TC, TIHTY, and even MR when they were initially released (or were surprised to find out that she sang them).

Meanwhile Katy hasn’t had much vocal evolution and isn’t as versatile as Gaga’s, so it sounds the same and easily recognizable to pretty much everyone :bon:

Gaga's voice is so diverse that she can constantly change it. I remember hearing Perfect Illusion for the first time and thinking that I'd never heard her voice sound like that before.

Particularly with Million Reasons, a lot of people said, "Wait, this is Lady Gaga?" (at least in my experience). C2C also caught people off guard, and I think that because she uses so many different styles, it's difficult for anyone but an actual fan to recognize that it's her voice. Katy's voice has remained largely the same since her first album and is thus, at this point in her career, the more distinctive voice between the two.

Put Poker Face and Million Reasons side by side and a lot of people might not recognize that they're the same artist.

I don’t think Gaga’s versatility makes it less recognizable as people say.. if anything it’s more recognizable because even in all those different styles, it’s still clearly Gaga’s voice

Katy has a more recognizable voice. Gaga’s voice is more unique. She changes it up all the time. Like, Gaga from the Fame and Gaga now are not the same. While Katy still sounds the same.

I’m actually nice.

gaga's voice is only recognizable to us :laughga: every time she releases a new song everyones like "this is gaga?!" but with katy you can always tell its her even though the production might be different (dark horse, feels, swish swish). katy has a really unique tone. very cartoon/betty boop-ish

Katy’s voice sounds very similar to Pink, Jessie J, Kelly And Demi

P!nk and Demi? I would say Katy sounds kinda similar to Jessie J and Kelly but P!nk and Demi? I don’t hear it at all. P!nks voice is quite unique and distinctive.

Is it thought? I think for people who listen to Gaga's music daily it's clear that it's her voice... however, for people that only know the hits, I don't know that people totally recognize the voice change that happened between You and I and Applause (and subsequently Million Reasons).
